    Although if you want to take advantage of using ControlTemplates then good luck without using Blend since you don't have the same designer capabilities for items like this within a resource dictionary that you get with user controls and windows. I think this is a shame and requires one to use Blend in order to see what your template looks like without doing some other hacks or running the actual application after every change.
