Thanks. Can you compare one or both of these with MPTT, or is MPTT an extension to the depth-first method?

@orokusaki the only definitions of "MPTT" I've been able to find easily are imrannazar.com/Modified-Preorder-Tree-Traversal and imrannazar.com/Modified-Preorder-Tree-Traversal . At first glance, it seems to stand for "Modified Preorder Tree Traversal" and consists of adding extra numbers to the nodes to improve things somehow in a database scenario. You are not using a database since everything is in memory, so you are just doing a pure Preorder Traversal, nor does it seem like you need these "MPTT" hacks since you are working in memory.
