I have a problem on Android 14 tablet (Teclast T60) which the Gboard on-screen keyboard refuses to be turned off when I use an external BT physical keyboard, even though I completely disabled all the keyboard settings. The on-screen keyboard appears every time I focus on a text input field, block most of the screen and disrupting my workflow. The on-screen keyboard should remain hidden when I use the physical BT keyboard.

  • OS: Android 14
  • Device: Teclast T60 (Tablet)
  • IME: Gboard (Google Keyboard)
  • Input Device: External BT Physical Keyboard (set up for Japanese IME)

Steps to Reproduce:

  • In Android Settings, I turned off all the options to disable the on-screen keyboard (when a physical BT keyboard is connected) which are set to "Turn Off" or disabled.
  • Connect the BT keyboard.
  • Tap on any text input field (e.g., a search bar in Chrome or a text field) to give it focus.

Result (The Problem):

  • The Gboard on-screen keyboard is immediately displayed at the bottom of the screen.
  • There is no way to manually stop or hide the on-screen keyboard which appears for 1-2 seconds.(e.g., all the turn-off options are Off).
  • The problem continuously happens after reinstalling Gboard, restarting the OS, and trying various system settings changes.

What I expected(Correct Behavior):

  • When the system settings are configured to disable the on-screen keyboard (particularly when a physical BT keyboard is active), focusing on a text input field should NOT display the on-screen keyboard.
  • The system should turn off the on-screen keyboard by the user settings.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Reinstalled Gboard.
  • Restarted the device/OS.
  • Verified and disabled all options for "Show virtual keyboard" or "On-screen keyboard" in the Android's keyboard settings.
  • Checked and toggled settings within Language & input options.

Has anyone encountered this specific bug on Android 14 or a Teclast T60? Is there a hidden Developer Option, or ADB command that can disable the on-screen keyboard? (I reported this problem on the Google Issue Tracker: issuetracker.google.com/issues/451219318)
