I have a problem on Android 14 tablet (Teclast T60) which the Gboard on-screen keyboard refuses to be turned off when I use an external BT physical keyboard, even though I completely disabled all the keyboard settings. The on-screen keyboard appears every time I focus on a text input field, block most of the screen and disrupting my workflow. The on-screen keyboard should remain hidden when I use the physical BT keyboard.
- OS:
Android 14 - Device:
Teclast T60 (Tablet) - IME:
Gboard (Google Keyboard) - Input Device:
External BT Physical Keyboard (set up for Japanese IME)
Steps to Reproduce:
- In Android Settings, I turned off all the options to disable the
on-screenkeyboard (when a physical BT keyboard is connected) which are set to "Turn Off" or disabled. - Connect the BT keyboard.
- Tap on any text input field (e.g., a search bar in Chrome or a text field) to give it focus.
Result (The Problem):
- The
Gboardon-screenkeyboard is immediately displayed at the bottom of the screen. - There is no way to manually stop or hide the
on-screenkeyboard which appears for 1-2 seconds.(e.g., all theturn-offoptions areOff). - The problem continuously happens after reinstalling
Gboard, restarting theOS, and trying various system settings changes.
What I expected(Correct Behavior):
- When the system settings are configured to disable the
on-screenkeyboard (particularly when a physical BT keyboard is active), focusing on a text input field should NOT display theon-screenkeyboard. - The system should turn off the
on-screenkeyboard by the user settings.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Reinstalled
Gboard. - Restarted the
device/OS. - Verified and disabled all options for "Show virtual keyboard" or "On-screen keyboard" in the
Android'skeyboard settings. - Checked and toggled settings within Language & input options.
Has anyone encountered this specific bug on Android 14 or a Teclast T60? Is there a hidden Developer Option, or ADB command that can disable the on-screen keyboard? (I reported this problem on the Google Issue Tracker: issuetracker.google.com/issues/451219318)
