I have MacBook Air running 15.5 as a host system with most recent ipfw of macOS in a UTM guest with a USB SDD attached via side port with TimeMachine on it. I boot into recovery mode on the UTM guest system and trying to use the Time Machine via shared path, but the guest system does not see the source. How can I fix this?

  • You say a USB HD, is UTM allowed to see the USB devices? docs.getutm.app/guest-support/sharing/usb Commented May 30 at 16:06
  • Yes, Marc, I added path to the mounted drive and set it to read-write. But since guest system is a brand new install (still in setup state to restore system from the TimeMachine) I can't check how guest system sees it. I suspect TimeMachine is not just mounted drive, but some DiskUtility features are needed. Tried creating dmg from the whole drive, but couldn't find in UTM how to mount an image (as it used to be in VirtualBox). Commented May 30 at 17:56
  • The solution was easy - needed to change network type to bridged. Now host and guest machines are in the same subnet Commented Jun 27 at 21:05
