Is it possible, using Preview (or maybe some other tool if not doable with Preview, but Preview preferably) to remove all annotations from a PDF file, without manually deleting every annotation?

In the "Tools menu", choose "show inspector". In the inspector, select "Annotations inspector".

Press CMD+A to select all annotations, then click backspace to delete them.

It even recognises and removes annotation made by other programs! (Tested with annotations made by PDF Expert on the iPad.) Commented Nov 7, 2017 at 10:18
  • This works, but be careful. It will also remove links from the PDF if that document was built with links to websites. Commented Mar 4 at 10:42
  • @mikey Indeed. So is there an expedite way of only removing "my" annotations? That is, highlights, underlines, or scribbles I did on the iPad. Without having to scroll through that list and selectively deleting each item I recognize as mine. Commented Jul 12 at 9:54

PDF Expert can do this!

In menu bar, Edit then Remove All Annotations.

  • Question asks explicitly about Preview, and there is an answer which shows that it is straight forward with preview. Why would I want another tool than the built in one for just this? Commented Mar 20, 2023 at 4:20
