- That looks like a good plan, I'll give it a shot. I have actually been trying a few things and got it to work. First I removed the resistor, removed the 5v wire to the same relay, left as INPUT_PULLUP. Then I added a Diode from ground to the top side of the Module Relay for flyback. That seems to work, strobe and everything, but I may have a ticking timebomb!!Matt D– Matt D2021-07-13 15:41:48 +00:00Commented Jul 13, 2021 at 15:41
- Added an updated circuit with my changes. Thoughts?Matt D– Matt D2021-07-13 16:43:19 +00:00Commented Jul 13, 2021 at 16:43
- 1@MattD I would still recommend adding the smaller pullup resistor on the input pin. It will help it be more immune to noise. Snubbers are still a good idea to add, although the diode you added is doing most of the job of the snubber for the inductive load of the second relay. You should consider adding one to the second relay's contacts though, if only to increase their lifetime.Majenko– Majenko2021-07-13 16:51:14 +00:00Commented Jul 13, 2021 at 16:51
- Thanks for your help, it's all working now, got 4 inputs and 8 outputs to do the same, that's a fair bit of wiring, I think I'll need to put together a strip board to tidy it all up.Matt D– Matt D2021-07-13 22:01:56 +00:00Commented Jul 13, 2021 at 22:01
- The internal pullup was ok when the car wasn't running, but was not enough with the engine on. Putting in the 1K external pullup resistor worked a treat, even when running. Thanks!Matt D– Matt D2021-08-06 11:51:42 +00:00Commented Aug 6, 2021 at 11:51

- Don’t use edits to reply to the author
How to Format
- create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~ ```
like so
``` - add language identifier to highlight code ```python
def function(foo):
print(foo)
``` - put returns between paragraphs
- for linebreak add 2 spaces at end
- _italic_ or **bold**
- indent code by 4 spaces
- backtick escapes
`like _so_` - quote by placing > at start of line
- to make links (use https whenever possible) <https://example.com>[example](https://example.com)<a href="https://example.com">example</a>
How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. arduino-uno), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
