I started with ZorinOS on the Toughpad, but ran into stability issues. Either the GNOME DE was just too heavy for the device, or the tweaks that Zorin made to GNOME rendered it unstable. So, I tried Xubuntu. I'm a lazy former-Windows user, so I don't like to put much time or effort into setting up a system. I prefer it works out of the box and any tweaking is just done for aesthetics. What has worked well: -The touchscreen as long as I keep it in the default landscape view -System stability - no crashes or issues -Speaker for music, etc. -System updates are quick and easy with sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade What hasn't worked great: -Touchscreen if I try any other orientation besides default -Bluetooth speaker. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Not sure if it's my speaker, the Toughpad, or an OS issue. -Onscreen keyboard. I've yet to find a workable solution for this. I rated this 9/10 even though the lack of a working onscreen keyboard for a touch device is a critical flaw. Zorin had an excellent working onscreen keyboard by default, but it was too unstable and the device crashed multiple times a day. I went with a high rating for Xubuntu because it is really a stellar, lightweight system, and it probably wasn't designed with touchscreen tablets in mind. The tablet is used by my young daughter, so I'm ok with it not having a working onscreen keyboard. Keeps her out of trouble! Ele lida muito bem com suspensões e retomadas, sem travamentos frequentes. Em raríssimas situações é necessário recorrer ao famoso comando Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, algo relativamente comum em computadores da década de 2000 quando se usa interfaces mais pesadas. Entre os pontos negativos, vale mencionar que o sistema não vem pronto para executar aplicativos no formato AppImage ou Flatpak. É preciso instalar manualmente o suporte a essas tecnologias. Ainda assim, essa pequena etapa adicional não compromete a experiência geral, que continua sendo extremamente positiva para quem busca desempenho e simplicidade. Version: 24.04 Rating: 10 Date: 2026-02-07 Votes: 6 I use Xubuntu for over 10+ years and it never dissapointed me. It's stable, I choose it over debian because of ubuntu repos and snap. On fresh install it takes me few minutes to configure everything. It's great for programming, Xfce in my opinion the best DE available, highly configurable, light and well develop. I use two panels - one on top for launchers, time, sensors and one on bototm as taskbar running apps. I tried all major distros (debian, centos, fedora, opensuse, slackware, arch and varieties) and some of them I use daily in my work.
