One of the largest freshwater fish on 🌎
@ryan_izquierdo is helping stock juvenile Arapaima at @jurassiclivingjewels — a carefully managed Florida fishery built around one of the largest freshwater fish species on earth.
Native to the Amazon basin, Arapaima are among the largest freshwater fish on earth, capable of reaching 14 feet and 440 pounds. They’re air-breathers, surfacing every 10–20 minutes, and known for explosive topwater strikes. These fish are still juveniles. Which is wild.

After landing an 8.48-pound lunker to win Big Bass Splash, 27-year-old angler Will Robinson was already headed home with a new bass boat. Then his name got pulled again — he had one more shot at another boat.
He passed and handed his spot to 79-year-old Vietnam veteran Chuck Bridgewater — a man he’d never met.

For seven straight days, the Fish Camp Florida invasive team ran roadside ponds, neighborhood canals, bridge cuts, gator water, and the outer edge of the Everglades—stacking over a dozen species across one of the wildest missions we’ve dropped yet.
This was Ryan’s version of urban fishing: shad getting slammed in suburban ponds, “Miami mailbox” peacock bass blowing up in canal water, and a neighborhood stop producing a straight-up 10-pound mondo largemouth. Not for everyone. For these anglers? Absolute money.
From Midas cichlids that might’ve been the prettiest fish of the week to clown knife fish that can literally swim backward, every stop felt crazier than the last. And it all came back to camp for a final chef-built feast with the haul: spotted tilapia, peacock bass, bluegill, white shrimp, sunshine stock hybrid, largemouth, clown knife, green iguana, warmouth, Burmese python, and more.
South Florida looked like a suburb on the surface.
Underneath it, it was a full-blown invasive education.

This is Field & Stream Fish Camp: Invasive vs. Non-Invasive Species, FLORIDA edition. From the urban canals of Miami to the wild, untamed Everglades, we teamed up with @sportsmans_warehouse for a week & chased some of the most destructive invasive species taking over Florida — clown knife fish, snakeheads, cichlids, bright orange male iguanas, and even massive Burmese pythons.
As an invasive species, this male iguana was humanely euthanized and fully put to use, later making its way to the table for a Fish Camp final feast.
