It's been so long since I posted that LJ didn't even give me one of those annoying "would you like to use your last draft" thingies. But I'm here now. Hi. School is hell, but in a kind of great way? Like, I really enjoy the new things I'm learning and also the things I'm being pushed to do, but also it is a LOT OF WORK. And I got back home at 11:45pm on Tuesday. So. Mixed emotions.

I keep trying to draw and get into new tv shows, but I keep losing the thread of everything because school gets in the way. I started Outlander, which was fascinating and fun and really, really pretty but I still haven't watched 108. But I'll get there. Before 2015. miss_porcupine got me into that one and is now trying to get me into Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, which also looks very cool (interesting women! female protagonist! Period clothing!) and that's on my list too. Someday, I will watch everything.

I did randomly watch a few episodes of How to Get Away with Murder though, and non-spoilery thoughts: The acting is freaking amazing, Viola Davis is amazing, the characters are waaaay more shades of gray than I usually enjoy in my media consumption but I'm still totally into them, and it's very exciting. So far, 3 episodes watched. We'll see how much further we get there...

So it's been an age and a half since I last posted here D: But, I feel it's fitting that my last post was about how excited I was about Maleficent, and now this one's after I just watched it :D If you follow me on tumblr, it's mostly a repeat, but LJ is much more fun to discuss on.

Non-spoilery opinion: Had a blast, Angelina is perfect (<333), the movie was visually gorgeous and the wardrobe/makeup was fantastic, the plot was unexpected in a good way, the dude playing Maleficent’s magic raven is great and Elle Fanning is adorable.

I'm on summer break from my grad school classes now, so even though I'm still working full time, it feels like I have so much free time on my hand. I read a bunch of books and am visiting people right and left. Thank goodness for classes, because really, there's no way you could enjoy break as much if you didn't have things to take a break from!

Watching a Korean drama that no one on any of my flists apparently watches is kind of a bummer, I'm so used to fannish discussions of shows on lj or tumblr. Also idk if that means anything to anyone reading this, but Song Chang Ui is awesome.

I've been neglecting my LJ, I'll post some more fanart here soon. TV-wise, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has stayed fun, still loving Teen Wolf, am afraid that HIMYM will top off a fun show with a crappy ending but still hopeful nevertheless, and watching bits and pieces of this and that. What's everyone's obsession at the moment?

Happy New Year everyone! I spent three weeks in India, and as always was both kind of sad to leave and happy to get back to my own place too. I wish India was a little bit closer to America, maybe just a 5 hour plane ride instead of a 19 hour one...

In TV news, the on-flight entertainment had the first three episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, so I watched all three. I liked them, am mostly indifferent about Andy Samberg, but Melissa Fumero is really freaking adorable, and I like Andre Braugher's character a lot. I think this might be a watch-if-I-can show, unless it gets even better faster. What do you guys think? Also watched Pacific Rim and enjoyed it, though unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) do not feel fannish about it at all. But it was enjoyable.

Teen Wolf is making me happy because all the characters I really love are getting cool things to do and Scott and Stiles and Allison are just ♥ and the Scott/Stiles stuff is awesome so far. Some hiccups as always, but really, it's an hour well spent for me.

Am going through Martha Wells' Ile-Rien trilogy right now. I just realized I didn't read the first two books, but am mostly done with Wizard Hunters, and there have been no missing info issues so I'll just catch up with them later. I love Tremaine ♥ Also Florian and Ilias, but really, Tremaine ♥♥

This year is going by so ridiculously fast. How have you guys been?

I haven't posted on here so long, it feels easier to just be lazily quick on tumblr. With my long commute from class now I've been reading a lot though. I reread Martha Wells' Raksura trilogy and it is just as awesome as it was on the first read. I'm sad it's over, I kinda want more. But I just bought City of Bones, don't know why I never picked it up before even though it was published in 2007! So far, so awesome.

The other thing I read recently was the Whitefire Crossing and it's sequel, The Tainted City, by Courtney Schaffer. I loved the first one, the second one was quite a bit more wobbly, some things that felt kind of repetitive and I wish there were more female characters who did things, but it was still an entertaining read and I'm definitely going to pick up the third one. Seems like it should be out relatively soon-ish.

What have you guys been reading? I want to add more things onto my kindle. And clearly, I enjoy fantasy :D But anything works, as long as it's not going to end depressingly. Also, do any of you follow Teen Wolf? I posted a few new things on my tumblr if you're interested :D

So, I am now a grad student. After many, many years of being adamant that I would never ever go to school again, I'm now doing a Masters. It's just two years and they're all evening classes so I can work and take classes, so it's not really disrupting life other than three days of the week being ridiculously long and me actually having to do HOMEWORK after years of being homework free.

(I also owe a bunch of people fanart, it's all super late, but it'll totally happen!)

On the other hand, this is like the coolest way to go to school, because all my classes are design related and relevant to both my work and fun times in a way.

Also, I am now working on an infographic about sharks, how many people get to say that about their classes? We were asked to pick two topics and research them for last class, mine were a roundup of Modern Art, and all about sharks. My instructor looked at my two topics and said "I don’t think I need to ask which one you’re choosing, right?" XD

Dear LJ,
You should go watch The Heat and help it make scads more money. Because I said so. Ok, no, because it's hilarious and awesome and I sat through the movie in a theatre that was trying really hard to emulate the name of the movie and I still did not walk out because it was so good.

Also, because it has two kickass lead characters who aren't just a female version of every generic buddy cop movie with guys in it but are female leads who are cops with the female part of it just important enough to be notable, but not so much that it's an Issue.

Also also, apart from one minor running joke and a couple of scenes that were just meh to nope, the writing was really, really fun and the acting was fabulous. I want Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock to just make tons more movies together now because they had chemistry up the wazoo. They can play anything, buddies, sisters, life partners, I'd go watch.

Also also also, the ending is great.

I am reading a ridiculous amount of Fast & the Furious fics and I think I've caught up to all the good AO3 updates. There's a lot of Dom/Brian and even some Mia/Brian, which I like, there isn't any Gisele/Han, which makes me really sad :( I want some Brian/Rome too. Or some giant gen fic. I've also been watching this video over and over.


I have no idea why I'm so obsessed with this ridiculous franchise, but I love them all. Except for movie 3, that one doesn't count.
