So you're creating something for me for a fest? Firstly, THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are amazing. I will appreciate your work, no matter what it is. Before you proceed to read the novel below, I want to say that you should write/draw something that you are comfortable with. Feel uncomfortable writing humor? Don't! Don't like any of the ships I like? Write something else!

That being said, you might feel like you need some help in figuring out what to create. That's what this post is for. I've seen posts on people's journals, where they list preferences and such, and thought I'd do one too.

Please use my likes and prompts as inspiration, don't feel pressured to include anything! Prompts in particular are only suggestions - I'm terrible at coming up with prompts, so I'll probably just be happier seeing whatever you come up with.

Do-not-wants:

- PWP (some smut is fine, but less can be more when it comes to smut)
- tooth-rotting fluff
- jealousy as a major plotline, particularly out-of-proportions reactions or actions out of jealousy
- holiday fic, particularly anywhere tropical and relaxed
- large age gap
- large power difference in the couple, unless both parties clearly have some agency (eg. boss/employer is fine if the dynamic is balanced, particularly if the employer holds emotional/sexual power over the other party)
- any underage stuff (most of the characters I've listed should be of age anyway, with one exception which I'll get to)

- AUs I'm not interested in: tattoo artist. angel/demon or incubus/succubus, wings, alpha/beta/omega stuff, kidfic (otherwise I'm pretty game when it comes to AUs, especially in art!)
- art-specific DNW: chibis (anime style is otherwise ok if that's your style!), 3D modelled art (eg. Sims game characters)

What I love about this game: moral grey areas, female characters that try to take their own fate into their own hands, a sense of looming despair, but the sense that despite fate, in the end, life is what we make of it, Brit's cattiness, Hamlet's schoolboy angst, Guilda!!! and the comedic relief that Guilda and Rosie bring, how messing in other people's business may have consequences, being rightfully selfish and choosing for oneself even when responsibilities are tugging every which way, the way in which people's agendas and fears all cause a conflicting mess that's impossible to untangle without some casualties, the way some characters feel like side-characters in someone else's story

• Ophelia/Guilda or Ophelia/Rosie/Guilda: I absolutely would have locked the "Sacrifice RESPONSIBILITY for INDULGANCE" timeline in place if I hadn't been too intrigued to see all the other endings. I'd love any stories from this timeline, especially when they try "living unadventurously"
• Ophelia/Brit: I found it intriguing how quickly Brit was able to change her mind about what she was tasked with, when given the right persuasion. And how there was a certain honesty in the way Brit talked to Ophelia, like she was the only person she could talk to properly. An exploration of the nuances of their relationship, and what they might hold.
• Ophelia/Brit: what happens when they work together. (Optional: betrayal, either of them using the other to get a desired outcome)
• Rosie/Grace O'Malley: I just want a happily ever after for Rosie, ok

Kathy Rain
What I love about this game: the atmosphere and aesthetics (small town vibe, rain, graveyards, motorcycles - all that jazz), fighting an inner battle, tormented by the past, trying to stay strong but actually needing others, detective work, delving into one's own shadow, Kathy's sassiness

What I love about this game: obscure, unexplained references to things beyond the human understanding (eg. "the pale"), the mix of cultures and languages, the bleakness but also the way life seems to find a way, how pulsing with different aspects of the human experience everything is within the game, the absurdity, the meta levels, the way the world so seamlessly blends detectiving and a politically & historically bleak place forgotten by the world with tabletop roleplay games, weird music scene, cryptozoology and a handful of other odd things

I will be eternally grateful if someone picks up the challenge of writing for this fandom!

Prompt ideas:

• General prompts: underground movements where women are running things, the way different characters cope with things through escapism or realism
• Klaasje/any: Klaasje is such an enigma. Either she's more honest than anyone (and no longer cares about holding pretenses), or she's manipulating everyone.
• Klaasje/any (except Ruby): Klaasje seeking comfort after what happened. Bonus: get really dark with it.
• Klaasje Amandou/Measurehead's Babe: Measurehead's Babe finally realizes she hasn't been thinking with her own brain, when she sees someone who is. Bonus: Babe just gets wrapped up in another unfulfilling hero-worship.
• Soona/any: all I want is happiness for her, someone who gets her aloofness and roots for her projects
• Cunoesse/Annette (the Bookstore keeper's daughter): It's obvious Cunoesse is from a very broken home (if she's even a real character at all and not just a fragment of Cuno's subconscious lol), and does not have very many supportive relationships in her life. Maybe Annette is the only constant for her. (NOTE: Both characters are obviously underage in the game, but roughly the same age, so keep any smut content to when they're of age)
• Joyce Messier/Lilienne Carter: Joyce and Lilienne get to know each other when Joyce is parked up at the fishermen shacks.
• Plaisance/Billie Méjean (Working Class Woman): Plaisance's bookstore is the daily escapism Billie needs.
• Joyce Messier/Klaasje Amandou: Klaasje disappears from Revachol at the same time as Joyce. What happened? Did Klaasje steal Joyce's boat or did Joyce help Klaasje escape? If the latter, did they already have history and is that why Joyce was so keen on spending time in Revachol?

Night In The Woods
What I love about this game: the spooky but subtle atmosphere, how slow-tempoed it is, the sense that time moves differently in this small town, depression, angst, but also how often these feelings express themselves in subtle ways, the pains and slight awkwardness of trying to pick up old friendships, growing pains, playful ways to interact with the world, feeling emotionally broken and different, feeling stuck, autumnal vibes, lovable characters, undertones of caring and warmth

What I love about this game: how there seems to be absolutely no distinction between sexes in this world, fate is what you make of it, lush nature, mountains and winter scenery

• Astrid/Sapphire or Astrid/Dovahkiin: They have some history together. Bonus: it didn't end well, and now they have to face it again. Super bonus: Astrid has to kill Sapphire or someone close to her.
• Astrid/Sapphire or Astrid/Dovahkiin: Sapphire is tasked to steal something from the Dark Brotherhood. Astrid is not happy.
• Rayya/Senna: Long-distance. Senna is working in the city in the Temple of Dibella and Rayya took the temporary Housecarl job so that they can save up for a home together.
• Dovahkiin/Rayya: MC has seen a lot of places and maybe even owns some properties in other places. But it is only when she sets foot in Falkreath that she feels a sense of home. Maybe her next adventure is here, alongside the ravishing redguard warrior she just met.

What I love about this game: escaping a bleak corporate life with no meaning, small town vibes, all characters have their own hopes and dreams and secret pains, gardening, foraging and exploring, lesbian ranch aesthetics, some characters having mixed feelings about home (feeling stuck but also happy-ish)

• Haley/Any: Struggling with feeling like and outsider, not just because of her personality and interests, but also because of her in-the-closet sexuality.
• Haley/Leah: Haley has a most persistent and annoying crush at the most unlikely person... Leah! Leah, who is outdoorsy, down to earth and walks around in her muddy boots - the opposite of everything Haley thought she wants.
• Abigail/Haley: Abigail has always wanted to be an adventurer, but deep down, she's scared of venturing too far into the mines. But when Haley challenges her to show her around (and maybe search for some beautiful gems) she's put into a tight spot.
• Caroline/Jodi, Jodi/Robin or Leah/Robin: infidelity. Bonus: they were sweethearts in the past. Now they're married to the wrong people and have kids and everything is complicated.
• Penny/Maru: Penny feels like she is constantly followed by something, a shadow, a ghost - something. She doesn't know what it is, but she can see it from the corner of her eye at odd moments, beside her bed in the split second before waking up, etc. odd times. She thinks she's going crazy, but finally confides in Maru. Bonus: Maru starts using her scientific equipment to find out what it is.
• Robin/any: More ghosts. Robin helps Character A with some house remodeling and during the job, runs into something strange. Seems like the house is haunted.
• Sandy/Emily: Emily's girlfriend Sandy comes to stay with Emily and Haley. Haley is very territorial about their house. Bonus: Go all the way comedy with this.
• Jodi/any: Jodi seeks comfort while her husband is away.

What I love about this game: the moral decisions, the cyberpunk and particularly the hacker aesthetics, serving drinks as a way to enhance certain feelings, the soundtrack, the queerness

I finished a thing last night and got it sent to a beta! It’s been so long since I’ve been able to finish off a WIP and moreover write something that’s not for a fest so I’m super happy that my couple of sleepless nights binge-writing paid off.

It’s an epistolary Ginny-centric gen fic and was way out of my comfort area because I never work from the first-person view and hardly ever write gen. There's probably still a lot of changes I need to make, but hey, it's definitely half-way celebratory dance time!

The weight of my WIP list feels more oppressive than ever. I want to stop being the writer who leaves everything to rot on my drive and turn into the writer who finishes their shit. :’—D I think I'll do a classic "rant about my WIPs post", if anyone's interested. (I love to read about other people's WIPs though myself!)

Here's all the WIPs that I have going that are more than a wisp of an idea:

• I have 5k of a Padma-centric detective fic I started writing for hpwlwbb 2019. It's Padma/Hermione, with a lot of focus on plot and Padma and Parvati’s relationship. I freaking love this story but I’m hella stuck with plot details (as tends to be my problem with mystery fics). I feel like it needs some time to mature.


• There's all dem ficlets for my Ginny/Pansy table for rarepair-shorts, which I haven’t worked on in AGES. I have a bunch of half-written ficlets sitting in my folders. It’s my goal to finish at least one or two of them for Sapphic September.


• I have 5k of a Ron/Draco humor fic I started for Ron/Draco fest 2019 but didn’t finish on time. I'm planning to submit it next year for the fest if I manage to finish it this time! This one actually feels low-pressure and really fun to write (and I've returning to it every now and then), and I’ve got pretty much the entire plot planned out, so shouldn’t be an impossible task to finish.


• A Percy/Oliver family fic that I’ve got 2k and wild plans for. I REALLLLLYYYY want to finish this someday, but I’m absolutely terrible at writing child characters in a way that seems realistic and suitable to their age. I think I’m just going to wait for the perfect fest to come up to get the writing momentum for this and bribe Lena to improve my terrible characterizations for the kids.


• There's 5k of a Draco/Charlie war-time AU that I started back in 2017 for interhouse-fest for a really awesome prompt that I can’t seem to find anymore, but that was something like "War!AU where Draco helps a Weasley escape Britain”. I have the entire thing plotted (!!!), but I’m stuck because I can’t decide whose POV I want to write in. (Currently it’s a mixture of both.) Plotwise, it would make more sense to be from Charlie’s POV (because Draco is hiding more secrets, and it would be nice to hide them from the reader too), but Draco’s POV is more natural for me to write and has better comedy value.


• There's a few k words of a wlw university AU drama fic that centers on Pansy, Lavender, Ginny and Daphne. Think HBO Girls meets HP meets LGBTQ+ community. I sort of have a love-hate relationship with this story (similarly to how I don't really know if I liked Girls the series), because it’s just massive amounts of drama and sarcasm. But then again, I'd be happy reading a girly fic full of wlw drama so why wouldn't I just write it? :D


• A few k words of a Narcissa/Pansy fic that is much darker/angstier than what I typically write. Think Carol meets Harry Potter meets I don't know, something dark. :D The plot for this one is a bit vague, I just have scenes and a general atmosphere. I'm also considering switching to writing in the 1st POV. It would be cool to write something like this that is so out of my current writing comfort zone.


• 30k of a Drarry Horcrux hunt fic I STARTED IN 2009. Fuck you, writing rut. I ran out of plot with this one. I know where I want it to go eventually, but the details in between this point and the end are so vague that I’ve been stuck. For 10 years.


• A sequel to my Drarry Auror Drizzle fic, The Worst Case in Auror History, from 2015. 0 words written, but lots of hilarious scenes in my mind. At the bottom of the priority list. I'll get to this when it feels like a fun time to write it.


• A very awesome summer fic idea I’ve had since 2004 :------D Strangely, it hasn’t lost it’s appeal after all these years (much like most of my ridiculously fluffy and angsty fic ideas from back then :D). The idea has changed a lot since then: mystery elements have appeared, and the main characters have shifted from Harry and Draco to Hermione, Pansy, Hannah and Millicent (still with some side-Drarry)! My bedroom wall looks like one of those scenes out of detective series with all the post-it notes going on trying to plot this one out. I'm determined to get it finally started this NaNoWriMo so that there is some hope to finish it by next summer.


• Smaller WIPs include a Hannah/Pansy wartime AU ficlet I started writing for rarepair_shorts in summer 2018. (I'm almost ready to post it but am kind of thinking of expanding it!) And a silly Padma/Daphne fic that I've written about half of that I got the idea for from one of nearlyconscious's fest sign-ups, can't remember exactly which one! And I wrote a couple of k words of a Ginny/Blaise detention fic that was supposed to be a birthday present for my sister in... 2010 or something. :D

Not to mention, there's the WIPs I foolishly went and posted the first chapters to:

• My Book 6 Ginny/Pansy war-centric AU fic, World on Fire. I have tons more of this written, but I disagree with the characterization of Blaise I had at the time and since he's a very centric character, I don't know what to do about it.


• The Hermione/Severus comedy fic Consequences of Drunk Owl Post I started as a Christmas present to lenapinewoods back in 2016.

Woooo. On top of these active and stale WIPs, I've also signed up for hd_owlpost (wanting to dip my fingers back into Drarry after all these years!) and would like to do Femslash Exchange. And make some Christmas gifts happen. Oh yeah, and there's also the Secret Christmas Idea lenapinewoods and I have.
