StatMap Ltd has entered into a formal partnership with Mergin Maps for providing off-line capabilities, for client organisations using Earthlight GIS, with the ability to undertake the editing and management of spatial data, managed within Earthlight, whilst in locations where there is no mobile phone signal or Wifi. While Earthlight GIS enables online editing and submission of data, this only works whilst there is a phone signal or Wifi connection. Mergin Maps is a field data collection tool which allows users to collect, store and synchronise data with Earthlight. It removes the pain of writing down paper notes, georeferencing photos and transcribing GPS coordinates. Mergin Maps supports offline field data capture for situations and locations where mobile phone coverage and data connection is unavailable. It can be configured to use either offline or web-based background maps and contextual layers. Mergin Maps allows users to perform live position tracking, fill out survey forms and capture and edit points, lines or polygons. You can also connect external GPS/GNSS devices via Bluetooth for high-precision surveying. Mergin Maps supports offline field data capture for situations where a data connection is unavailable. It can be configured to use either offline or web-based background maps and contextual layers. All of the data collected or edited within Mergin Maps mobile application can be synchronised back to Earthlight GIS seamlessly. #Mergin #Maps #Earthlight #Lutra #StatMap #GIS #mobile #spatial #geospatial #mapping #llpg #geography #mobilemapping #offline #webGIS

⛓️💥 Good, OK, helty, ok, fine, safee, secure and many more synonyms and ways to express that something is in order. When we don’t have our form responses standardized, it makes it much harder to analyze them afterwards. To ensure consistent responses and also make #fielddata collection quicker, you can use the Value Map widget in #QGIS. This allows you to predefine a drop-down menu that will directly translate to the Mergin Maps mobile app, ready for surveying. Use it, for example, when you want to track progress, species types, or asset categories. 🛠️ Quick set-up guide with a video: https://lnkd.in/d2QSsjbi

  • Throwback thursday (It's still a thing right?) Today, we’re looking back at one of our favorite conservation stories: the Latvian Ornithological Society’s (LOB) mission to save the majestic Eagle Owl. With only about 50 mating pairs left in Latvia, every nest counts. But monitoring 300+ artificial nests across remote forests isn't easy - especially when you’re dealing with: 🌧️ Harsh weather & thick forest canopy 📱 Poor data connectivity 📋 Moving away from messy "pen and paper" workflows By switching to Mergin Maps, Peteris Daknis and his team of volunteers transformed their survey process. They moved from scattered WhatsApp messages and lost notebooks to a streamlined, offline-ready digital system. The result? ✅ Real-time synchronization of nest locations. ✅ Color-coded statuses to avoid double-checking nests. ✅ Faster data turnaround (no more waiting until winter for paper forms!). It’s a brilliant example of how open-source GIS tools can make a tangible difference in biodiversity conservation.

What would it be like if you didn't have to spend 3 hours every evening rewriting field data from notes and spreadsheets into #QGIS? Stop by our booth, try out the seamless data synchronization of the Mergin Maps mobile app, grab something sweet, and take away a special gift 🎁 💥 Wait, that is not all! 📌 Stefan Giese from WhereGroup GmbH has prepared a hands-on workshop in German, during which you will have the chance to set up a QGIS project ready for data collection from scratch and try it out outside right away during the workshop. Workshop: Mobile QGIS with Mergin Maps  When: Thursday, March 26, 11:10 AM WS3 (VG 1.102) 📌 Julian Hafner and Geneviève Hannes from Camptocamp will share how they used Mergin Maps to solve problems for their recent clients, also in German. • Stop fixing data at your desk and start catching errors in the field. 🌿 For ecologists, the most frustrating part of the job isn't the rain or the long hikes - it's returning to the office only to find a missing coordinate or a misspelled species name from three weeks ago. Our latest guide explores how the QGIS + Mergin Maps workflow is changing the game for ecological surveys. From custom forms with searchable species dropdowns to centimeter-level accuracy with external GNSS, we’ve built a workflow that works as hard as you do - even when you’re miles away from a cell tower.

  • Protecting historic landscapes requires speed, precision, and the right tools. 🍎 🌳 🏔️ In the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, home to some of the world’s oldest wild apple orchards, rapid urbanization is putting vital natural resources at risk. Traditionally, reporting illegal construction could take days of manual legal work - often too late to stop the damage. The Almaty Orchards Landscape Memorial Alliance (ALMA) has changed the game by combining Mergin Maps with Gemini 2.0 AI. How the workflow works: ✅ Rapid Data Collection: Volunteers use Mergin Maps to record locations and photos of suspected violations, even in mountainous areas with no signal. ✅ AI Analysis: Once synced, a custom-trained Gemini AI analyzes the data against local regulations. ✅ Instant Action: Within 30 minutes, the system generates the necessary legal forms for the user to submit to authorities. As one activist put it: "Now we are able to move quickly, like special forces, to report violations." We are incredibly proud to see Mergin Maps being used as a tool for community and environmental conservation. This project serves as an inspiring template for activists worldwide.
