    $\begingroup$ It is my understanding that the OP has a matrix with entirely symbolic entries, and is keen on determining if it has a zero eigenvalue as it is. Interval arithmetic is useful if the matrix entries are all inexact numbers, tho. $\endgroup$ Commented Oct 13, 2015 at 13:12
