- 7So you say for sure that undelete does not bump the question?user152859– user1528592017-05-17 12:31:23 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:31
- 1@ShadowWizard - that was the case when this was implemented. I don't believe undeletes bump, not even today.Oded– Oded StaffMod2017-05-17 12:32:22 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:32
- Thanks for your answer. If in the scenario you describe, steps 3 and 4 are inter-changed, which is the difference? (or if only steps 1 and 3 are done).pasaba por aqui– pasaba por aqui2017-05-17 12:33:21 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:33
- @Oded well there's a moderator insisting it does bump, can you please check to be 1000% sure?user152859– user1528592017-05-17 12:34:56 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:34
- @pasabaporaqui - if someone edits then undeletes it doesn't bump a post (we don't bump edits on deleted posts), however, if someone undeletes then edits, it does bump (as the edit was on a post that is not deleted).Oded– Oded StaffMod2017-05-17 12:36:32 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:36
- 1Sorry for my ignorance, but what is "bump an edit"?pasaba por aqui– pasaba por aqui2017-05-17 12:38:37 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:38
- 19@Oded spammer can post spam (totally spammy), delete it after less than a second so nobody will notice, then undelete after few days. Spam sticks, system fails. Why not simply have the undelete event bump the question?user152859– user1528592017-05-17 12:41:45 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:41
- @pasabaporaqui - means that the post goes on the homepage.Oded– Oded StaffMod2017-05-17 12:42:15 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:42
- ok, thanks a lot. What about a voluntary self on-hold? It this way, I can on-hold the question and, while all users sees question as hold, edit. Finally, remove the hold state.pasaba por aqui– pasaba por aqui2017-05-17 12:49:57 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:49
- @pasabaporaqui being closed/on hold does not prevent downvotes (or upvotes) on the question, only answers. What you ask for is the ability to temporarily lock a question by its author.user152859– user1528592017-05-17 12:50:40 +00:00Commented May 17, 2017 at 12:50
- 20So... why not just add a bump when the question gets undeleted if it was edited.Chad– Chad2017-08-07 15:51:41 +00:00Commented Aug 7, 2017 at 15:51
- 5Why doesn't this also apply for answers?Donald Duck is with Ukraine– Donald Duck is with Ukraine2018-02-10 18:54:07 +00:00Commented Feb 10, 2018 at 18:54
- 1@DonaldDuck When a deleted answer to a non-deleted question is edited, the parent question is still bumped, resulting in 10k+ users being able to see what happened.Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog– Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog2022-07-14 18:43:46 +00:00Commented Jul 14, 2022 at 18:43
- 1"Posts that are deleted, but not self-deleted can be edited without restriction." When I edit a non-sef-deleted post, this message pops up (after a while, not immediately): This post has been deleted - no more edits are allowed The edits still get saved though.David Balažic– David Balažic2025-03-28 09:43:34 +00:00Commented Mar 28 at 9:43
- 1With SmokeDetector this seems like much less of an issue. Alternatively, just make undeleted posts show up/bump the recent questions pages like new questions do. At the very least, this should only be a restriction for users who have less than a certain amount of reputation. OP at the time of posting had 1k+ reputation on SO, assuming it happened there... very unlikely to be posting spam.TylerH– TylerH2025-04-28 14:07:55 +00:00Commented Apr 28 at 14:07

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. stack-overflow), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
