Does this answer also apply to edits to the Wiki for tags? I created a tag and wanted to add some details and have been stuck with this error message for an hour (it is on the Unix site so it should be a reasonably big site, shouldn't it?). Commented Jun 7, 2023 at 14:43

It is sometimes annoying since there will be like 10 pending edits on a question or answer and it takes up so much of the queue when there are no high-rep people online. Commented Jun 8, 2023 at 15:22

It's a long time, almost from the morning, from time to time I try to edit a post to fix its code and also add sample usage... all the time that I click on edit, I get this error: There are too many pending edits on Stack Overflow. Please try again later. Commented Oct 24, 2023 at 10:52

@HassanFaghihi I have the same issue today, about 10 days apart. I never had this problem before in my 10 years of using SO. Could this be an issue that needs to be addressed? Commented Dec 5, 2023 at 12:06

I find this limit deconstructive and demotivating (especially on stackoverflow). Some posts yells for fixation, however people cannot do that until some admin logs in and frees up some space in the queue, which is obviously hectic, hence unreliable. If the aim was to prevent site hacks by robots, it can be set to 5000 or even more while being safe. Commented Dec 15, 2023 at 8:10

If there is a better place to suggest that the error message about the queue being full include a link to the edit queue, please let me know. Consider that presenting a problem (queue is full) is best done while also presenting the user with an opportunity to fix the problem (a link to the edit queue). Commented Dec 24, 2023 at 15:59
  • I get the same error as Hassan, I think I get that error when I have already made an edit which is unapproved for the time. Maybe there's a limit on user end to 1? instead of 5? or there's some reputation requirement? Commented Dec 28, 2023 at 10:06

"the system will produce an error message telling you that you can't currently submit a suggested edit" -- From my experience this is a blatant lie. Multiple times I get to the edit form, do all my edits and then when I submit I get an error 'edit queue is full'. Great, so I spent 10-15 minutes fixing formatting and wording to chuck it in the bin :) Commented Jun 27, 2024 at 13:33

@dtasev usually that happens when you're trying to edit through a review queue's "Edit" option. It's currently bugged, but if you scroll down to the original "Edit" button and try to click it there, it won't bring up the edit prompt if there's too many pending edits. (It doesn't display the error either, it just does nothing...) Commented Jul 5, 2024 at 15:48
  • I think there must be some feature on big sites that allow to help administrators and other users with the privilege to accept edits. It is just a vague idea, because I don't know fine the internal mechanisms of StackOverflow for this queue and the privileges of the users, but maybe in such cases in which the limit has been reached, there may be an exception case in which users without the privilege to accept answers but that fulfill some requirements (reputation? reputation related with the tags of the question?) could help. Of course, as I already said, it may be possible or not. Commented Sep 8, 2024 at 12:44
  • Interesting observation: while it is written here that the queue size for StackOverflow is 500. And according to the queue stats the current queue size is 404 ( :D ) . But still I cannot propose an edit since "the queue is full". Commented Oct 4, 2024 at 3:23
  • Can we increase these limits? It's almost 2025 now with many more developers vs 2023. Commented Nov 4, 2024 at 18:26
  • @MelroyvandenBerg this is not a convincing motivation: if there are many more developers, there should also be many more reviewers. Commented Dec 5, 2024 at 9:08
