Hey guys,

I know I fell off the face of the earth - I'm alive and well, but I currently have no intention to return to the world of icons. As such, now that the time to renew the domain name and hosting has come up, I can no longer justify the costs. The person providing hosting is a family friend and may be able to extend it for another month - instead of it being a year or nothing - but that remains to be seen.

Those designers who are using my domain for their hosting needs have already been alerted, so this is for the members: if you have the need for any icons or bases of mine, ladytalon's, feathered's or any other maker whose icons are hosted at upon-tiptoe.net, now is your chance to save them.

I will be putting my folders onto my external hard drive, so if you ABSOLUTELY NEED a certain base or icon after they're no longer available, you can send me a PM on LJ with information on what and I'll upload it for you. Just keep in mind that I no longer get any email alerts from LJ (though I'll enable them on this post for a time) and check my messages sporadically.

I hope all of you are doing well - thank you, one and all, for participating in the great ride that was my icon-and-base-making career. I had a great deal of fun making icons and bases for you, reading and replying to comments, having hundreds of polls and suggestion posts, and oh, the memes! The community itself will stay up, so you will still see new posts. However, this is where I bid you all farewell.

PS: OI was created over eight years ago. Yes, you read that right - EIGHT YEARS. Granted, I haven't been active steadily that entire time, but you guys were a big part of my life for a good number of years. :)

I'm not sure if anyone still checks this space, but I was thinking about you recently and wanted to let you know about a project I've embarked on.

A few months ago I started doing hand lettering, and recently got confident enough to post on Instagram - now I'm making things daily, and I love it. It's a lot like making icons, but with my hands instead of a mouse. Making icons was a big part of my life and I realize now how much of an impact it had on my creative nature and habits - I'm almost 25 (!) and I started OI when I was 13 or 14. While it's been years since I was making icons regularly, the habits it formed and mindset it created have not left me and they've been valuable tools. As I start and continue my work, I'm excited to see how it progresses and the community I can build, connections I can make, and friendships I can begin just as I did when I started OI.

Happy 2012, everyone!  This post has a variety of icons I made last year but never got around to sharing.  These are mostly things I've made for random challenges—landofart, supernatu_elite, therainbowtree, and welovestock among them.

For round 05 at inspired20in20, we made four sets of five icons that each depicted something - a character, relationship, show, etc.  I knew from the beginning that I was going to do a set on Inara Serra of Firefly, because I'd recently made some other icons of her and she is just so lovely. As I began looking through all my Firefly caps, I realized that I wanted to do a set on Firefly as a whole, as well. Then, in the middle of the month, I rewatched the first episode of Sherlock and realized that I needed to icon that show. My other two sets ended up being John Watson, because he is the most adorable badass ever, and Sherlock & John, because whether they're your OTP or your BROTP, they have a fantastic relationship.  My reasoning behind each icon is in its alt text, so hover over them if you want to read it.
