We’ve done a frig of a lot this last week on high emotion and very little sleep while under almost constant fire watch and evacuation alert. Seeing to a loved one’s personal effects and final rest is hard enough without having to deal with encroaching wildfire, phone and internet and power outages and small town homophobia. (too long, won’t relate)
When we finally reached home yesterday night it seemed like nirvana after an incredibly stressful week. Work has piled up as we were out of town and we both need some stress reduction and time to process everything, plus we still have a lot of legalities to deal with re: mom-in-law. We’ll be having to travel back and forth for awhile, but do plan to hold off things until (hopefully) the fires are under control. Plus it will allow the time needed for the coroner to run their tests and issue the death certificate. (six weeks we were told, no, we still don't know anything except that it must have been sudden and catastrophic)
Not to mention it might give me time to recover from all the soot inhaled thanks to the fires. My lungs and sinuses are most displeased.
Despite everything we saw to MIL's wishes and saved all her papers/files/documents and cat and car from the fires. If the house (ours now) goes up in flames, well, the fire insurance will pay out and we'll have an empty lot. Mad respect for
chazpure who had to cope with the loss of her mom as well as everything else going on and even had to decide what mementos to try to save while under pressure. I'm proud of my beloved.
That said, I want to say thank you to all who sent messages of condolence, your comments and thoughtfulness were very much appreciated. It made an unbelievably stressful/painful time more bearable. 💌 Thank you.
