I'm actually wanting to post on podfic_tips (my crosspost), but there are no posts there so far (just the community), so I thought I would post this here and then crosspost there. While I know Dreamwidth is pretty quiet for podficcers these days, other interests are more active so it would be nice to be able to share things outside of Discord.

so i am trying to get pac into podficing again but my internal mic is not doing me any good- doe you lovely people have any hints or tips for mics and which are good but not too price-y? you can also go high price so that i can see what is best out there and figure out where to get it.
also it would help to know what thinks to consider before buying a mic for reading stories to- i dont need to sing or play music its really just the reading.

So, I've got a project coming up where I'm (hopefully) going to include artwork for every single chapter (possibly even half-chapters....) and that's pretty easy to do for an mp3 podfic, because you just create several files (as I would anyway, considering that this is going to be a 10h podfic) and imbed the cover art per file.

However, is it possible to add covers for individual chapters for a single podbook file? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Has anyone been able to make Chapter and Verse work for chaptered podbooks lately? It won't open on my computer and I'm curious as to whether it's just me or if others are affected? I'm on Windows 10, so that might be part of it.

Is there something else you've been using that you recommend for chaptered podbooks?

So, I'm working (I say working, I'm re-recording the entire thing) on a podfic in which explicit violence plays a large(ish) part, and I know that some fans/potential listeners are not fans of the violence, but everything else in the fic.

I'm thinking of adding a small sound effect to signal an upcoming scene so listeners can opt to hit the skip button and move on to the next scene, or the end of the explicit scene, and skip the icky parts. (In podbooks it would be to the next chapter, for MP3 files, you'd create a multi-file podfic.)

Have any of you done anything like this before? Do you think a podfic would benefit from it? Or any listener? Would it be too annoying for other listeners to have this sound effect? Or is it considered too much work to create all the additional chapters and files?

Do you guys podfic on commission? Outside of fandom auctions, I mean? And if so... what do you charge?
