I like the idea of logging/reporting being a service external to the one being reported upon (else a failure can cause failure to log as well), but I agree that relying on an external company to deliver that - especially one with as little "support" as Twitter seems to offer - is not a good idea. Remember that your data's never as important to anyone else as it is to you.
