    You've pretty much proved JeffO's point: you're not in the business of maintaining alarm clocks, either. If you buy one and start using it without doing a complete tear-down and analysis of how it works, you've accepted that the insides will be abstract to you. Nothing says you can't tear it apart to find out how it works, but how often do you find it necessary? Commented Jan 26, 2012 at 21:54
