If you want to become a key part of the business (in many domains) then being able to come up with solutions to domain problems is essential. Very frequently those solutions can only be derived by having a solid mathematical background. You may not need to be an expert at any specific mathematical area but you should know how to apply a wide array of mathematics so you can figure out what math might solve your particular problem of the moment.
