I don't disagree in general, but one of the great strengths of Maya is the fact that it does, in fact, have a very strong scripting API (originally MELScript, now Python).

@jwd - Maya is an example I picked because I used it a couple years ago, if you have a better one in the same line of thought let me know. Maybe Bryce although it's not as well know?
