About Us / History of Sheela Bal Bhavan
Sheela Bal Bhavan (SBB) is a home for girls located in Jaipur, India. It was founded in 1992 by Joti Bhatnagar and his wife Sheela and is a home in the true sense of the term. As such, Sheela Bal Bhavan raises the children under its care in a supportive and loving environment that takes into account the physical, emotional and educational needs of the children. The home is guided in its day-to-day running by the philosophy outlined in its Mission Statement.
Funds for the project are raised in Canada through Can Serve Foundation, the U.K. through the Can Care Support Group and in India through Can Care Trust.
Mission Statement
Sheela Bal Bhavan is a home for girls in need. More than just offering food, clothing and shelter, it is intended to give them choices.
The goals of Sheela Bal Bhavan are:
1. To provide a home with a warm emotional environment, in which children feel accepted, loved and cared for, while catering for their individual needs.
2. To instill values of honesty, integrity, perseverance, dignity, self-respect, open-mindedness, appreciation and acceptance of diverse points of view, enabling them to prosper in social, professional and spiritual fields.
3. To help them develop self-sufficiency and independence in intellectual, emotional and social domains.
4. To assist them in making good choices in a way that lets them better cope with realities of life.
