    If the array may contain empty elements, you should use "${(u)array[@]}" or "${(@u)array}" instead (note the quotes). Commented Nov 10, 2014 at 19:49
  • I am using zsh 5.1.1 (x86_64-ubuntu-linux-gnu), and ${(u)array} works even if the array is empty or contains an empty string, without quotes. Commented Jul 1, 2017 at 0:06
