Hello, yes I have tried similar and just tried this, still no luck though

Must be something wrong with your post type. I used the above code and modified my search bar and it works great. I did my test on wp 3.3 not sure what version you are using.

I just tried it on a DIfferent theme, it works, however does not on my theme, so SOMETHING must be interfering on my theme to makew it not work, thanks for the test, I would of never thought to check if it were just 1 theme or another not working

I would look for other pre_get_posts in your theme or other things that might break it
