  • Probability and Statistics

Probability and Statistics Paperback – January 1, 1961

In writing this text for Continental Classroom's television course in Probability and Statistics, the authors have tried to keep before them the needs of a person studying largely by himself. Consequently, we include more than the usual number of worked-out examples, we rarely skip steps in mathematical development, and we devote considerable space to the discussions of ideas. The authors have two basic objectives: the first is to acquaint the reader with the theory of probability - the mathematics of uncertainty; and the second is to illustrate some applications of probability to statistical theory.

Old Probability and Statistics classic book recommended by another old classic Physics book in the Berkeley Physics Course Vol 5 "Statistical Physics". The Probability and Statistics book is excellent for self study. This book does not need a knowledge of Calculus - only high school Algebra. Anything by Prof George Thomas of MIT (also author of the famous "Calculus" book) is always worth reading! Also read "Probability and Statistics" by Murray Spiegel (Schaum Series) to complete an introduction to Probability and Statistics. The Spiegel book needs basic Calculus however (Read Thomas's Calculus!). Good luck.
