Dear Valentin Crettaz:
I am very impressed by your skill sets and devotion to the Java Ranch! You have helped me with lots of questions, in the past year. I know of the FAQ that Java Ranch provides for XML certification. My question to you, what steps did you take on preparing for the IBM XML exam and how long did it take for you to beat IBMs exam?
Kindest regards,

Unnsse,
I took advantage of the free certification opportunity IBM announced last year in November 2002. 1000 people would get free vouchers for any IBM certification program after taking a pre-assessment/sample test. The exam had to be taken by March 31, 2003. So, to answer your second question, it took me four months to prepare for the exam. As I'm working full-time, I dedicated about 2 hours a day during two months just to brush things up. I have been working with XML since the 1.0 version came out in 1998, thus it was just a matter of going through all objectives and take some mock exams to get the feeling of an exam-like situation.
As for the steps I took, I just browsed through every single link referenced in the important links section at the top of the XML certification forum:
Roseanne Zhang XML FAQ
IBM 141 Exam FAQ
XML Mock Exams
XML links
Also, I have used O'Reilly's XML CD bookshelf and some other XML books.
Actually, there is no magic recipe, just hard work and strong will

Valentin,
Thanks for the feedback and resourceful links, pertaining to XML. I am definitely going to use them when I start my study period / training for IBM's XML exam. Thanks again...
Best of luck in all of your endeavors,
