Outstanding Food Processor

Outstanding Food Processor
I own this food processor system and got it from their American distributor. I researched and reviewed numerous brands, particularly Breville. I wanted a dicing blade. It is an extra with the processor, but that's fine. Even with the dicing attachment it was still less expensive than the Breville Paradice 16. I hadn't even given Magimix a thought until I started to read reviews on other sites. I didn't realize Robot Coupe, the maker of Magimix, created the original food processor, from which Cuisinart created their boxy Custom 14 cup FP, that's changed little over the years. When I researched more, I was surprised by the form and function of this processor, along with the very long warranty. YouTube was also a great resource for demo videos and more. I finally took the plunge and got the Magimix 5200XL. It was the best decision I made. This thing is a powerhouse. It's solid, remarkably quiet compared to other FP's. The three bowls (mini, midi, main) are made of a solid plastic. The machine is easy to use, powerful, and efficient. It's very easy to clean and comes standard with a few nifty accessories. I appreciate the juicer and Blendermix ring, which helps when mixing liquids/softer consistencies in the large bowl. It comes with an accessory box with the posts, adapters, cream whipper, and 4 discs. The dicing kit also comes with a french fry disc. I chose to get all the other available separate sets (Creative Kit w/small box), discs, and attachments. All of them are worth every penny and complete my food processing system. The blades and discs are sharp and get the job done. For those saying they couldn't reach customer service, all they need to do is contact NutriMill. They are the US distributor, and are very attentive. They were very helpful, through chat, when I contacted them with an accessory question. The NutriMill website is all Magimix owners need to go to for questions and/or service (warranty or otherwise). Because of the price, this food processor may not be in everyone's budget, but if you want a powerful, solid, long-lasting machine, Magimix is the best, IMO. It definitely stands strong against Breville. I highly recommend it. Research it for yourself. For me this was a no-brainer. The Magimix had everything I was looking for (16 cup capacity, multi-size bowl functionality, power, reputation, accessory and attachment options). The large cup size is something Cuisinart & KitchenAid no longer have. Definitely consider the Magimix if you want an outstanding food processor system.

    UPDATE:
I've now had this for just over 2 years, and I wanted to update this review. The machine is still running like new and has so far been very durable. The only tiny thing that is a less than 5 star feature is that the buttons on the machine can easily get dirty over time even if you make an effort to keep them clean, and that can lead to them getting a bit stuck. When that happens, I've been able to use a little Windex and get them running again. Other than that, it FAR outperforms any other food processor I've had.
I bought this out of desperation because other processors (even rather expensive ones like Breville) were bad or unreliable. I spent some extra money hoping to get something that will last a good long time, and this looks like the one. It's very powerful but not huge, which I like. I'm glad I got the biggest one because I can also just use the smaller bowls when I don't need to work with so much food.

I'll post an update if I remember, in another year or two to report on its durability.

We have had our Magimix for about a month and absolutely love it. It makes cooking so much easier. The instructions are very well done (making it enjoyable to read how to utilize the machine in so many ways) and the processor is helpful for a variety of meals. High quality machine and accessories- I feel confident that this will last a lifetime. One drawback is that if you start in the top, some ingredients may leak down into the othe bowls (we were blending our own seasoning, so all dry ingredients, and some got into all the bowls), but this may be user error and wasn’t major enough to dock a star. We love it!

I received mine today after a two-week wait, and immediately, the box looked like it had been taped back shut multiple times. Unboxing it, it was evident that an attempt had been made to pass it as a new item, but I am extremely thorough and used to tricks like these. Numerous wear marks on the plastic parts and missing packing material, but the kicker was the Motor housing. Removing the bowl from it showed several huge cracks where the screws holding it to the motor had been removed and reinstalled carelessly. This was obviously a USED, carelessly refurbished unit, being sold at a FULL PRICE of $550. On top of that, the manufacturer refused a replacement, meaning I must ship it back and wait for a refund.

I want to support Western manufacturing, and I like what MagiMix is doing, but their US Distributor, NutriMill, has some serious QA/QC and integrity issues.

I purchased the Magimix 5200 XL Chrome because I've been afraid that the Japanese Cuisinart DLC-7 that I've had since 1988 or so will eventually crap out on me, leaving me without a food processor. Given that my Cuisinart was, at the time, best in class, I opted for what's currently considered its equivalent--a Magimix.

Magimix is the household division of Robot-Coupe--the inventor of the food processor. Robot-Coupe is still the last word in commercial food processors and its Magimix division is of similarly stellar quality.
Plastics have come a long way since my Cuisinart, so the possibility of the bowls' becoming brittle over time is much lessened; these bowls are tough, with some flex. The three nesting bowls are brilliant--the smallest bowl has its own s-blade, followed by a mid-sized bowl for grating and slicing, followed by the largest bowl for . . . processing. This is different from my Cuisinart; one bowl did it all and it's nice to be able to grate/slice into that one large bowl. In all fairness, though, I think the mid-sized bowl is about the same size as my Cuisinart's, so it's kind of a draw, plus there's the flexibility of being able to use three bowls.

Two slicing and grating disks with cuts of similar depth (2mm and 4mm) are included. The disks and s-blades are Sabatier (i.e. manufactured in Thiers, France)--I don't think they're Sabatier-K but they're made in the right town. Not unsurprisingly, the disks cut and grate beautifully. Also included are a whisk for egg whites, and a dough hook--both plastic. A nice plastic box to hold all of the parts is included, as are recipe books and instructions. And there's part of the problem.

Two copies of Ma Cuisine are included, one hardcover in French and one paperback in English. MOST of the recipes are the same but some aren't and frankly, I'd rather have the recipes that appear in the French copy. No other recipe books for purchase, unlike the rest of the planet, so points off for that. This is as good a place as any to segue into the fact that Magimix--a French company--really gives short shrift to its North American client base. Europe gets a choice of COLORS; we get brushed "chrome," which would be much nicer if it were high polish. In addition, Europe has a much larger selection of extras, including thinner slicing disks, extra boxes to hold extra disks, replacement boxes for the accessories, etc. For that matter, both Australia and Europe have a much large selection of Magimix appliances and while I appreciate that adapting machinery for a different continent to break into a new market is expensive, Australia is MUCH farther from Europe than we are, yet they have the option of robots, juicers, gelato makers, and blenders. Very irritating.

I love my 5200 XL (not crazy about the Chrome) and fully appreciate that it was manufactured in France rather than in a certain East-Asian country that produces quite a lot of shoddy products. All I ask is that, if Magimix is going to limit the scope of its products in North America to please make the full spectrum of accessories and spare parts readily available for the product that's here. Better promotion of this food processor might create more interest in Magimix's other products as well. North Americans need more high-quality options that needn't be replaced every few years. This line of food processors is an excellent option--just don't treat us like poor relations.

When my not all that old processor died mid-task, I debated even getting another. Yet soon enough I realized I needed one. But I wanted one more reliable, and I really wished I could find one that would be easier to keep clean (like the handle. My old one trapped water there). Research led me to the MagiMix. It turns out to be a different animal altogether! So powerful. Makes actual slices! Shreds in seconds! I’ve only had it a few days, but I’m really happy with it. And the 30 year warranty on the motor tells me it should last.

Easy to clean and dishwasher safe. It does say avoid the drying cycle in dishwasher.
    The motor is strong.
    The attachments make it versatile.
