- Thanks Martin. I guess I will have to wait for it to get updated. I checked the version of the Market app and its 3.4.4, so I guess I am just 2 behind from the current one.SameOldNick– SameOldNick2012-03-08 18:54:10 +00:00Commented Mar 8, 2012 at 18:54
- I went into the Market today and it finally updated to "Google Play". I guess TELUS was just a little slow to get the update.SameOldNick– SameOldNick2012-03-08 22:34:02 +00:00Commented Mar 8, 2012 at 22:34
- Just wondering if anyone with a HTC Desire running the 2.3.3 upgrade that HTC begrudgingly release last year has managed to get Google Play onto their phone. I've tried the steps above but I still have the regular market. I get the feeling we've been abandoned and are expected to get slightly faster phones which are 7% more shiny (for another £500 or so) but I remain optimistic.user5506– user55062012-03-21 12:45:34 +00:00Commented Mar 21, 2012 at 12:45
- @Poldie: I do have a Desire, but with CyanogenMod 7.1, and I got the new market very quickly. AFAIR, Market updates are pushed by Google in their own discretion and are not dependent on device makers or carriers.Martin Tapankov– Martin Tapankov2012-03-21 12:49:43 +00:00Commented Mar 21, 2012 at 12:49
- I might check it out. Last time I looked at CyanogenMod the instructions were scary. Noone seemed to agree on how to perform the steps; the included links to other sites (with no guarantee whatever was being pointed at was still relevant), required downloads from file sharing sites etc. I'd do it in a heartbeat if it were simple but I can't risk bricking my phone for (by all accounts) a new icon to load a freshly renamed market. Or is it simpler now?user5506– user55062012-03-21 12:57:26 +00:00Commented Mar 21, 2012 at 12:57

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. google-play-store), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
