    Thanks, this appears not just a bug as I had stated that Tamil rendering is working even in Android 2.3.3 phones with some sort of intervention from the manufacturer. Commented Jul 23, 2012 at 5:24

    On 20th July 2012, I attend Google's gDays and in which I witnessed Android JellyBean 4.1 did displayed Tamil characters even out of browser. Unfortunately I could not test anything more. Commented Jul 23, 2012 at 5:25
  • With a comment on the question android.stackexchange.com/questions/26797/… I would say I am able to read Tamil in web pages, text files, SMS, contacts, file names, DOCX files through ThinkFree Office Mobile Viewer. I observed that this should be same for Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Hindi as well. Commented Aug 1, 2012 at 10:48
