I have an external monitor that supports touch input. It's connected through HDMI and USB to my new MacBook Pro. When I touch the screen, the input is executed on the main display (so the internal one) instead of on the touchscreen itself (the external one).

I had a similar problem with my Windows laptop, but there is a setting for which screen the touch input is executed on. I couldn't find anything similar for Mac. Anybody got any tips?

  • It's a no-name local brand. Under Mac OS it registers as "RTK FHD HDR". Commented Sep 25, 2019 at 8:38

If you're still trying to troubleshoot this 5 years later, I have an answer.

The touch function seems to work on whatever display you set as your main display. When I go into settings > displays and set my external touch monitor as "main display", the touch function works on that monitor.

  • That didn’t work for me. I have to move the mouse cursor over to the touch screen, then everything works. I am on macOS Sequoia 15.5 (24F74). Commented Aug 5 at 15:59
