My HC-05 has level shifters, so it it suitable for 5V. Software serial is no option, because it is just too slow and blocks the Arduino. There should no issue with USB, because the Arduino Pro does not have USB. I don't think the Bluetotth module can change the endianess of the data. I'm interested what that "some sort of problem" is...
