Are you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community.

Subject:LGBT History Month: Events in London
Posted by:friend_of_tofu.
Time:10:06 pm.
I have been somewhat involved in organising a few LGBT History events for this month in Central London, so here are some of the upcoming activities. The B & T will definitely be represented!

EVENTS IN FEBRUARY

Sun 15th Feb, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm - "Drunkenness Relieved By Lechery: a historic walk through Westminster, St James' Park & Covent Garden." Join your guide alextiefling for an exploration of some notable figures in and around the corridors of power. From William Rufus to Radclyffe Hall, from the Houses of Parliament to the Vere Street Brothel, come and discover the secret life of Westminster.

Meet outside Lillywhite's on the corner of Piccadilly Circus for a 1:30 departure. This walk is fully accessible except for a single passageway - if you have accessibility needs, please email your guide at lgbthistorywestminster@googlemail.com and they will happily assist you. The walk will last for 90-120 minutes and is just over 3 miles long. It finishes very close to Temple tube station.

Tues 17th Feb, 12 noon - 2pm - "Drunkenness Relieved By Lechery". Another opportunity to attend the Westminster history walk, for those with long lunchbreaks! Details otherwise as above.

Wed 18th Feb, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm - "Drunkenness Relieved By Lechery". An evening's version of the Westminster history walk.

Fri 20th Feb, 6:30 pm - 8 pm - "London is Itself the Nation". An evening's tour around the National Portrait Gallery, discussing images of some of the figures featured on the history walks. Expect to hear about James I, George Villiers, Queen Anne, John Wilmot, Anne Seymour Damer, Siegfried Sassoon and many more.

Meet in the front lobby of the National Portrait Gallery, St Martin's Lane (nearest station: Charing Cross or Embankment) for a 6:30 pm start. Booking is not required, but it would be helpful for the gallery staff if you wish to indicate intention to attend, and numbers. This is a separate event from the history walks and can be enjoyed on its own, although attending one of the earlier walks is recommended and, indeed, encouraged.

Thu 26th Feb, 6 pm - 10 pm - "Sodom, or The Quintessence of Debauchery". A readthrough of the Earl of Rochester's infamous, explicit play, organised by the lovely mirrorshard & sashagoblin. Dress up, take part and recite the immortal words of the great libertine. Amusingly-shaped vegetable props welcome.

Arrive from 5:30 pm at the Regent Street campus building of the University of Westminster: front reception should direct you to the correct room.

More events may be arranged later, including more history walks if there is sufficient demand. Please email lgbthistorywestminster@googlemail.com for any questions, requests or suggestions. Please feel free to advertise these events to any interested party. E-flyers can be supplied on request.

All events mentioned above are free to attend.

(x-posted a bit. Feel free to do that elsewhere if you think I'm missed anywhere)

Subject:BiCon Payments
Posted by:faerierhona.
Time:8:10 pm.
At last we can announce that we are now taking PayPal payments for BiCon! We thank you immensely for your patience in this matter, thank you again.

Please go and log into the BiCon website (www.Bicon2007.org.uk) with your booking number & password and click the 'Buy Now' button, for those of you who've applied to the Helping Hand Fund, there is information there for you too.

If you haven't adjusted who you would like to share a flat with on your booking form, please take a couple of minutes to re-add this information as due to a technical hitch we may have lost your preferences earlier this month (an email was sent out at the time about this)

Due to the profit making nature of Paypal, there will be a small fee for paying in this manner - unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this but we have tried to keep the fees to a minimum per booking transaction and scale. If you would like to pay without fees, please remember that we can still accept cheques (made payable to "BiFest" don't forget) and sent to the address on the site.

The deadline for booking for BiCon is Friday 13th July 2007 - tell your friends.

So what are you waiting for? Give us your money (please?)!! And we look forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks
Laura

Hi everyone, I've been a member of this community for a while but never got round to introducing myself so here goes.

My name is Helen,I am 28 and married living in Wirral, near Liverpool, United Kingdom. I have been bisexual for quite a long time and my husband is happy about that. I have never been held back, in fact I have been encouraged to do what I want to do and explore things and have involved my husband as much as I can.

Subject:PLEASE READ - Glass Bar, the London lesbian/bi women's venue threatened with closure - 5 days to rai
Posted by:plumsbitch.
Time:2:05 pm.
The Glass Bar, one of the best of the already few women's bars in London is faced with closure. Although thus far things sound a bit messy, the future sounds much more realistic.

The Glass Bar is a REALLY important venue, it'd be terrible if it closed. A wonderful 'secret' bar in central london, and home of many long-running groups over the years including the London Bi Women's group, Shugs the Word (Black and Asian book club) and many more.

Please give what you can and pass this on anywhere any and everywhere, especially if you have media/community contacts.

Subject:BiCon on BBC Radio Shropshire
Posted by:faerierhona.
Time:1:42 pm.
Am going to be on BBC Radio Shropshire on Wednesday at 10:45am to talk about BiCon - it will also be on the internet, as a listen again, and we will be given a recording to put on the website.

This is especially good as this is an area close to where BiCon 2007 is being held and they also want me to plug the mini-BiCon taster event there too. (18th February - don't forget to come along and support us!). Oh, and of course I will mention Brighton Bifest too!

They've also been trying to reach BiAs - the local Shropshire BiGroup, but can't seem to - anyone know of any contacts?

Subject:UK Mini-BiCon event
Posted by:faerierhona.
Time:1:31 pm.
Have you ever wondered what BiCon is about? Been tempted to go but not sure if it's your thing? Worried about what sort of people go there?

Then come to the BiCon taster event next month and meet this year's BiCon crew. We'll be on hand to answer any questions you might have, provide you with drinks and snacks and show you where our 4 workshops are being held.

BiCon Taster, Dragon Hall, Stukeley Street WC2 - 18th February 2007 12pm-5pm

Now in its 25th year, Bi-con is the UK's annual conference/ convention for bisexuals and bi-friendly people. As part of the Camden LGBT History Month's events, come and sample an afternoon of taster sessions and discussions. Free.

Map to the venue: http://www.bicon2007.org.uk/static/dragonloc.html

12:30pm - Are Bisexuals Conventional
Marcus Morgan
If bisexuals exist, where are they all? There's no bisexual pubs, very few bisexual club nights and no bisexual shops in Britain. The answer is - at BiCon. The convention (or conference) runs annually and is the best place to meet other bisexuals, find out about the bi scene or research bisexuality. But why should you go? What's it like? And is it a conference or a convention?

1:30pm - All About Bi
Jess Barker & Paul Crowley
Light-hearted discussion workshop on bisexual visibility in both history and our own lives. Which famous bis influenced our awareness of our own bisexuality? Come with stories of famous bis you know and love, gossip on current-day celebrity bis, or just come to hang out!

2:45pm - Bisexuality & Spirituality
Hen Griffiths
All too often, many mainstream religions frown on bisexuality. Is it possible to be bisexual and still have a religious or spiritual element to your life? This discussion workshop aims to find arguments for bisexuality from religious texts including the Old Testament and the Jewish Tanakh.

3:45pm - Bi in the Media
Meg Barker and Helen Bowes-Catton
Recently there has been much more mention of bisexuality in the media, with many celebrities and reality TV contestants identifying as bisexual or bi-curious, bisexual storylines on soap operas, and bisexual characters on popular television shows such as Dr Who. In this workshop we will discuss what we think of the way bisexuality is represented in the media, how we would ideally like to see bisexuality represented and what we might be able to do about that.

Posted by:aster13.
Time:11:26 am.
Mood: accomplished.
The Facts:

Date: Saturday February 10th

Time: 12 midday start, workshops 1pm - 7pm, evening ents 7pm - 12 (or maybe 1am)

Entry: £5 or £3 concessions

Venue: Royal Albion Hotel http://www.venues.uk.com/conference/hotels.asp?hotel=715
Location: Brighton Seafront, near the pier
Google maps: http://www.tiny.cc/map684
Multimap: http://www.tiny.cc/map2
Nearest train station: Brighton (Southern Trains)
National Express/Megabus/bus dropoff point ridiculously close
Travel information: About 50 minutes by train from London Victoria

General info:

We have a fantastic venue, right on the seafront, an amazing hotel by the Palace Pier

It's a contrast to the low-key activisty venue of last year - although it was lovely, community based and very welcoming, it was clear that we needed a larger venue to accommodate all of you lovely bisexuals and SOFAs (Significant Others, Friends and Allies).

Workshops planned include:
Bisexuality? Wossat then?
You're only as young as the bi you feel? Bisexuality through the ages - from student to pensioner
Make your own body - gender and body identity
Meet the bigwigs (this is VERY exciting) YOUR chance to pin down prominent members of organisations such as the police force, healthcare and council

Good disabled access, children welcome to the daytime social space (with a responsible adult)
Community fair, and craft space facilitated by the esteemed craft supremo artremis

A glittering array of DJs to entertain your ears and beguile your body, a bar, as well as all-important quiet space.

all this, and as much cake as you can shake a gaggle of bisexuals at (particularly if you bring some as well!)

(disclaimer, workshop names invented by myself on a whim, as they await more serious (promising?!) titles!)

I have to apologise, I've been rather lax recently at keeping up with membership requests. (Something I intend now to keep properly on top of)

So, I've dealt with all current requests, however, they expire after 30 days, so, if for any reason you are checking in here again, and never heard back from your request, do please try again!

Sorry again!

Subject:Hello.
Posted by:rikku_142.
Time:8:11 pm.
Mood: nervous.
I joined recently, so I thought I'd make an introductory post.

I'm a recently turned 31 year old mother of two. I've been seperated from my husband for nearly two years now. I have always been 'straight' so to speak, though I have always found women far more pleasing to the eye than men (like in avertisement posters etc.) but this was never in a sexual way. Until last year when I fell for a female friend.

Nothing ever came of it, but since that happened, I've found my attraction towards women is growing. I'm not bothered by this, and the few people who know have been very accepting and have been suprised by how well I took it. It was a slight culture shock I suppose, but I'm a very open minded person anyway, so I figured there was no reason to not just accept it.

I would say I'm currently bi-curious, as I've never been in any kind of relationship with another woman.

So hello :)

Anyway, that's a bit about me and why I've found myself here, hoping to meet like-minded people. Forgive me if this post is a bit long, I don't normally post in communities on account of being a bit shy.

Subject:Have you booked?
Posted by:puzzle_.
Time:8:38 pm.
BiCon, the annual national bisexual gathering, is coming to Glasgow in 2006.

BiCon is an annual festival for bisexual people and their friends. Held in a different location each year, BiCon attracts between two hundred and three hundred people and is the single biggest event in the UK bisexual calendar. The 2006 event - which will be the 24th BiCon - will be held at Glasgow Caledonian University on the Glasgow Fair weekend (Thursday 13th - Monday 17th July), and will be the first time Glasgow has hosted the event.

The programme typically includes a wide variety of workshops and entertainments, ranging from support and discussion sessions to opportunities to have fun and relax.Previous events have had threads such as Cultural Differences and Spirituality, and there is usually a BiCon Ball, with a different theme each year.

BiCon Communications Manager, Alison Eales, said: “We are very excited to be hosting BiCon this year. We hope to run a really fun event which will be as accessible to as many people as possible. We’re also aiming to improve Bi visibility in Scotland, so this year’s event will have a Scottish theme.”

BiCon Originating in London in the early 1980s, BiCon was originally a political conference. It was so successful that it became an annual event, and began to grow and evolve into the event it is today. The event enjoys a diverse attendance, representing a wide cross-section of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, spirituality, age, ability, lifestyle, and tastes - a comment often heard by attendees is that they are struck by how positive and accepting everybody is.

People attend for all kinds of reasons. Many, obviously, are bisexual; some come to support their bi partners, family members or friends; some come out of curiosity or support. But most people who attend enjoy the opportunity to spend some time where bisexuality is the norm and all kinds of identities are accepted.

For futher information or questions please contact team@bicon2006.com or visit the website at www.bicon2006.org.uk.

Hi, I'm Rachel, 19 year old uni student living in Brighton. I was so excited about coming to uni in such a gay capital as Brighton, but have been pathetically lazy (plus having issues about coming out to my new friends here) and failed to get involved in any lgbt stuff or meet any likeminded people. Anyone here in my area? Would be great to have people to add/chat to. Also if anyone knows of any bi/lgbt group/event type things going on!

Posted by:hieroglyphe.

Sorry for the cross-posting and the short notice, but due to personal circumstances I'm going to have to cancel the wyorksbigroup meeting this Wednesday. However, the next one scheduled for 10th May should go ahead as planned :-)

With it being a new and small group I can't guarantee numbers, plus it would be unfair to try and pressgang someone else into being there for the duration.
