- Hongwei Liu shared thisToday, Mappedin announced $24.5M in Series B funding, led by Edison Partners with participation from Betatron Venture Group. When we started Mappedin, the idea was simple: the indoors should be as navigable as the outdoors. Since then, we've mapped over 10 billion square feet across 86 countries and guided 450 million visitors through some of the world's largest properties, including Simon Property Group, LAX, and Super Bowl stadiums. This funding takes us from mapping individual buildings to entire cities. Indoor spaces are where people spend 90% of their time, but they're still largely invisible to the systems meant to manage and protect them. We’re changing that by giving safety officials, building operators, and their partners real tools to oversee and secure indoor environments at scale. And we're opening our platform so others can build on top of it. At this scale, indoor maps become infrastructure and we want to build it for every city on earth. We’re grateful to our customers, partners, and investors for building with us. Read the full story: ordnl.link/tKQx5DY And the exclusive in Axios here: ordnl.link/BF5DHQ9

- Hongwei Liu posted thisIn my experience, most product managers don’t actually manage products. That's why we made the role hybrid. Every product has an Owner who has another function (e.g., dev or sales manager). Some product managers have a personal vision and want engineers to make it real. Personal taste first, customer data second. The ideal PM is the voice of the customer. They talk to users. They listen. They synthesize. But the average PM? They just have a personal vision and want engineers to make it real. With no data or insight. In vertical SaaS you have defined customer sets. You know exactly who to talk to: - What problems matter, and - What not to waste time on. - The best PMs lean into that. In horizontal or consumer SaaS, there are millions of potential users. Instead of doing the hard work of understanding users. Most PMs just give up and substitute their own opinions. Great PMs are enablers. Not Steve Jobs wannabes with big egos and no taste. If you're not representing your users, you're not a product manager.
- Hongwei Liu shared thisEveryone’s talking about inflation. But no one’s paying attention to its quiet twin: Deflation. Think about it: → Flat screens went from $10,000 to $200 → Mobile data went from luxury to near-zero cost → Smart building tech? Now affordable too. It’s the hidden force behind the PropTech revolution At Mappedin, we’re riding this deflation curve, bringing premium indoor experiences to everyday spaces. Because the future shouldn’t be reserved only for premium buildings.
- Hongwei Liu posted thisUS investors bet on talent, knowing 9/10 startups fail. Canadian investors demand guarantees, as if failure is a moral flaw. When your startup fails in Silicon Valley: → VC: "Good luck, kid. Call me when you're ready to build again." When your startup fails in Canada: → VC: "You owe me $500k. Pay me back for the rest of your life." A founder friend of mine spent 10 years building a hardware startup. It’s failing now. In the Valley, investors would say "wrap it up" and be ready for their next venture. In Canada? They’re shackled to a $500k personal guarantee with a well-established VC: - No restructuring - No support - No way out This founder took a swing and missed. Instead of encouragement, they got a financial death sentence. And we wonder why Canadian founders don't take risks? We say we support entrepreneurship, then punish failure like it’s a crime. This is why Canadian innovation is stuck in a loop: → Seed investors don’t back bold B2C plays → So ambitious B2C startups can’t get funding → Investors blame founders, founders blame capital ...and the gap keeps growing Until we fix this toxic approach to failure, our best founders will keep heading south.

(and we're hiring -- check the comments to apply!! 🎉) Wygo exists to support community builders -- with demand for in-person experiences skyrocketing, we're betting the next wave of entrepreneurs will be the people who build belonging wherever they go. Today, millions of organizers host run clubs, dinner parties, peer groups, and storytelling shows. They hold their communities together by sheer force of will: two people, a spreadsheet, and an Instagram account, with revenue capped out around $30-50K/year. We're building the economic rails, professional networks, and discovery layer that lets them do what they love long-term. This raise means we can grow our team (!! 😁) -- we're now hiring across design, software, and storytelling to accelerate our growth. This milestone would not have been possible without the people who bet on us early: thank you to the entire Socratica team, the Accelerator Centre, Velocity, the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, Jake Rudolph, Alyssa Garaffa, Danny Desatnik, Alex Blumenstein, Maggie Arai, Anson Yu, Matthew Jordan, Ena Manjgo, and our friends and family. If you're building community, we'd love to work with you. 👀 Onward!!! 😎
- Hongwei Liu liked thisHongwei Liu liked thisUniversity of Tennessee just announced their new mascot — a rescued bluetick coonhound named Neyland. Neyland, aka Smokey XII, was found through the East Tennessee rescue community. When his original owners could no longer care for him, a dog lover tracked him down and made finding him a home his mission. UT's search team recognized something in him. So did everyone else. They named him after the place he'd call home. He makes his official debut April 11 at the Orange and White spring game inside a stadium that holds 100,00+ people. That's the thing about Neyland Stadium. It's not famous because it's big. A lot of stadiums are big. It's famous because of what it means to the people who've grown up going there. Parents who brought their kids, who are now bringing THEIR kids. #VolNation in the upper deck on a fall Saturday. The building earned that, over generations. That level of fandom is a responsibility. When a first-timer walks into Neyland, the experience they have needs to be worthy of the legend they've been hearing about their whole life. That fan doesn't know where to go. They don't know which gate is theirs, which concession is closest, what's worth making time for before kickoff. The infrastructure inside has to match the identity outside. https://lnkd.in/eNphPT_z #FanEngagement #GameDayExperience #StadiumTech #SportsTech
- Hongwei Liu liked thisHongwei Liu liked thisThe wait is finally over. The first 1-person, 1-employee billion-dollar company is here. It just took the #1 spot on the Lean AI Leaderboard, moving the average rev/employee from $2.5M to $40M per person (a 16x jump). The product was built in 2 months by a 41-year-old and his brother from their house, with $20,000 and no funding. Here's the story: Matthew Gallagher launched Medvi, a telehealth storefront for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs in September 2024. Within 15 months, Medvi had crossed $401M in revenue, built a customer base of 250k, and generated $65M in profit. Each customer generates ~$200 a month. The total cost base in 2025 was $336 M ($160-200 M to the platforms and $130-170 M in marketing), putting the cost at $500-700 per customer. With virtually zero overhead, the business made $65M in profits last year, and they are now running at a $1.8B annual run rate in 2026. But this wasn't Matthew's first company. Before this, he founded a company with 60 employees. It felt like progress, but the profits never came. He realized that 60 employees only increased his costs and delayed his decision-making. So when he started Medvi, he built it differently. Medvi has two platforms - CareValidate and OpenLoop Health. They handle the doctors, prescriptions, pharmacies, shipping, and compliance. Gallagher manages the customer relationship. He built the website, ran the ads, and took customer calls on his personal cell (initially). His AI stack did the rest: • ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok wrote the code • Midjourney and Runway built the ads • ElevenLabs handled voice • Custom agents connected everything together What's striking is that none of his tools are exclusive or hard to access. Anyone can sign up for them today. But it wasn't completely smooth. The AI chatbot hallucinated fake prices in the early days, and he honored all of them. But GLP-1 was just the beginning. Men's health launched in February 2026 and pulled 50,000 customers in the first month alone. GLP-1 aligned, chef-made meal delivery went live last month, and Women's health, hair, and skincare are next. Sam Altman has been predicting the first 1-person billion-dollar company for years. Nobody expected it to arrive this fast or look like this. This is the new playbook: lean teams, rented infrastructure, AI doing the work of 50 people, and one sharp operator owning the outcome. The only competitive advantage now is knowing your customer better and reaching them faster than anyone else. We are right at the beginning of something extraordinary, and this is only going to accelerate from here. Medvi and Matthew, welcome to the Lean AI Leaderboard. The Lean AI era is officially here, and what excites me most is what it means for the next generation of founders. The tools are accessible, and the playbook is now public. There has never been a better time to build something extraordinary with almost nothing.

Canada has an innovation problem. More specifically, we have an innovation-to-commercialization problem. In my latest article, "My Mission: Fixing Canada's Innovation Problem," I dive into why we excel at invention but often fail at turning that IP into globally competitive companies.
