I just recently saw something omewhere that was talking about how bizare the English language is. The point was made that the working out how an Englsih word sounds is nigh on impossible for novices due to the variety of ways of spelling various sounds.
By using rules that could be formulated by looking at other words the word "fish" could easily be spelt "ghoti"...
(How?):
"gh" from "enough"
"o" from "women"
"ti" from "action"
How cool is that!!
