Hello
I'm in the middle of my preparation for SCWCD, howver the exam seems easy based on other rancher comments and also on material it self.
Can anybody advise me if I should finish it or switch to the new certification SCBCD. So I save money and time.
And can anyone point the difference on market value between both certification?
Thank you.
by the way I may not post a lot of comments by I've been collecting tips and advise for more than years. So special thanks to all javaRanch family.

SCWCD and SCBCD have not much in common since they cover two distinct partitions of the J2EE realm.
SCWCD is focusing on the Web tier (Servlets, JSPs and other web components stuff), while SCBCD is dedicated to the Business tier (EJBs). (web tier/business tier descriptions at J2EE tutorial).
Please have a look at Exam Details (by Kathy Sierra) to get more details about what SCBCD is all about.

Depends on your focus, current job and future plan. If you are planning for a web career go for SCWCD and if you planning for an EJB career go for SCBCD. The time spent in SCWCD or SCBCD would be well spent but the money, I am not sure
Personally I think its better to remain as much doors open as feasible as a Java Developer.

I feel that studying for SCWCD and SCBCD would in turn prepare us well for the SCEA cert. So it is best to start with SCWCD & SCBCD before SCEA.
Just my personal opinion though

I do really appreciate your help. I will finish SCWCD since I'm almost finish with my preparation. I did check the Kelly's document it's really excellent and I'm sure it will be a success. Based on the SCBCD objectives I'm convince that preparing for this certification is like getting ready for SCEA whish is actually my true goal.
Thank you for your help and specially jorge for the documents.

I plan to make a SCWCD test on June, But now I have switched to SCBCD. I made SCBCD on June 10.
Since I got a free vouchers for IBM 484. So I may make 484 test and SCWCD on August at almost the same time. Then go for SCEA part 1 and IBM 287. Maybe it is a good way to get all developer certification from SUN and IBM.
I have got SCJP , SCJD and IBM 486 now!

Jaime, that is a good plan. The biggest cost of a certification is the preparation time, and if you are almost ready to go on one it make little sense to drop it and go for another, even is it is 'free'.
SCJP1.4, SCWCD
