I downloaded the FBN asignment. But I couldn't compile either DataInfo or Data Class. Both are giving the error that "suncertify.db.FieldInfo is not found". But FieldInfo class is compiling perfectly. Why DataInfo and Data classes are not recognizing FieldInfo class? All are in the same package. I am compiling from C:\..\suncertify\db>.Please help me in this.

Hey what's up Vinny ?
Dude, if it is not finding a "class" obviously the problem is in the classpath.

Well
I gave the command line argument as
c:\mydir\suncertify\db>javac DataInfo.java
and I gave class path as
set classpath=c:\mydir\suncertify\db
Did I do anything wrong?
By the way I am a florist.

Preety,
I download my SCJD assignment about a week after passing SCJP. The normal way to go would be SCJP,SCJD and SCEA. But since SCEA does not have any pre-requisities, you can directly go for SCEA. However unless you have some job experience working with Java, design patterns etc, you should do some reading before attempting SCEA. Also you will need to know quite a lot of stuff for SCJD. You will need to know good design patterns, Java coding standards. Among the technologies you will have to know RMI or Socket programming, Swing, IO related class usage etc. IMHO (In my humble opinion), you should first go for SCJD rather than SCEA. Also since there is no time limit to complete the SCJD assignment, there is no harm in downloading the assignment early and taking a look at it to understand the scope of the assignment and get a feel of the real thing. Also download it only if you are serious about completing SCJD, as it does cost quite a bit of money 250 USD.
Hope this helps . . .
All the best for your SCJD or SCEA.
Best Regards,
ST

Dear Florist
Thanks a lot for your advice I too agree with you 250 US Dollars is a lot of money. I am serious about SCJD HOWEVER I am a bit worried about 2 things. No.1 I have to complete my master's thesis which has 40 credit points out of 120. If i CONCENTRATE ON THESIS i am afraid i would not be in touch with java 2. I am in a real fix. Don't knOW WHICH TO DOFOIRST OR DO TWO THINGS at the same time.
Anyway Thanks a lot for your advice.Keep working hard for your assignment. Post me any questions which are concept based as i am very sound in those and may be I could of some use to you

I think the problem is with the class path only. I think u have to go back and refresh the basics of classpath, as it is one of the fundamental thing to know.
U specified the classpath as "c:\mydir\suncertify\db". That means JVM will look for a directory structure - suncertify/db/FieldInfo class under "c:\mydir\suncertify\db" directory, which is not the case. So your classpath must be "c:\mydir\"
I gave the command line argument as
c:\mydir\suncertify\db>javac DataInfo.java
and I gave class path as
set classpath=c:\mydir\suncertify\db
Did I do anything wrong?
By the way I am a florist.
