which means ppl who passed SCJD probably dont need to do the assignment againt for the Java 2 platform until Java 3 platform comes out
but i m not sure about ppl who passed b4 01/08/2003, I need people to confirm that if a Sun certified professional has already received a certificate and ID card with the printed expiration date b4 first of august , can that professional update the certification obtained to no expiration date?

Good find Billy. Here is two more FAQ questions on that page that respond to those that have cards with expiration dates.

Yes. The certified professional will need to send an email to the [email protected] alias to request a new certificate and ID card. Include your name and Prometric Candidate ID number.
How long is my Sun certification title now valid?
As of August 1, 2003, all Sun certifications are now based on versions. There is no expiration date to your certification title. You may, however, be certified on a technology that is outdated if Sun releases a new exam associated with a new technology version. Keeping your certification current is highly recommended.

Well seeing as the beta of J2SE1.5 (Tiger) hasn't been released yet (perhaps Q4 2003), and it will be several months after then that 1.5.0 gets its final release, I don't see an exam for 1.5 making it out until at least the end of 2004, perhaps later.

I think SCJP 1.4 is good enough, its still java2 platform so the scjp for 1.5 probably wont even be out until middle of next year or might not even be out. SCJP 1.4 came out middle of last year.

I wouldn't think you'd really need to update the SCJD cert, it's really just a general development test. Hope not anyway.

Workwise, it should be enough if you can keep track of the JSRs that make up 1.5 and be able to show that you can use them.
Of course, for the SCJD you need to use a production version of the Java specification.
