This question has been asked before, but it basically boils down to this.
the JVM tries to cast "null" to the most specific type of object it can. when you just have the Object and the String versions, null can be cast to a string, and the JVM knows which version to call.
when you have the Integer version, since both String and Integer are at the same level removed from Object, we don't know which version to call, so we throw an error.
