In India for 95% of families, children always live along with their families and parents do take active part if the child is switching jobs.
(My sister quit a government job for a private concern; and both of my parents went on rampage doing back-ground checks on her new company and so on...)
besides job...even what you study medicine/engineer/arts ect are decided by parents.
FYI... It is the parent (In India) who decides when the guy/girl should marry; they decide whom they should marry - it is arranged marriage system and even now it is strictly followed and love marriage is not welcome at-all
( And you wont know your wife till you get married )

Your perception is right upto an extent (and others generalization is annoying to put iot mildly - I won't marry a person I do not know and my parents won't force their will on any of us ever) - but this is a way too far fetched to actually have parent's day! That's meant for kids - even any 12+ year old here would hate the idea!
