I am an old mainframe guy, who is responsible for supporting a distributed Java application at my company. While I have a skilled staff of contractors that take care of day to day issues, I would like to increase my knowledge of Java, Websphere, and Linux, so I can "appear" to be more intelligent when atending walkthroughs.

Can you recommmend any particular courses or curricula for this?

Thanks, Alan

I assume that you do not have an understanding of the basic Java language itself. For fun learning (or serious!) the best books are the Head First series. Head First Java, Head First Servlets & JSP are the two books that you can get hold of and read through like a novel, and at the same time learn tons of stuff.
