Implicit narrowing conversions are not allowed. So why does the following code compile ?
char c = 4096;
short s = 4096;
char c = 4096;
short s = 4096;

Because 'char' is a a 16-bit unsigned type cpable of holding 0..65535 and 'short' is a 16-bit signed type capable of holding -32768..32767. 4096 is a valid value for either of these types.
