how to understand which Design pattern for a situation

Hi all Experts there -
I am preparing for this exam and need help from you all in getting to know how to prepare for the Design Patterns specifically. As you all know, there are 23 GOF and then the 21 JEE patterns.......how can one remember quality of each and apply it appropriately to a situation. I always get confused . Please provide suggestions on how to crack this.

Instead of focusing on the design patterns, focus more on the problem being solved by the pattern. Design patterns are tried and tested ways of solving commonly occuring problems. If you focus on the problem being solved by the design pattern, you can easily identify if a similar problem arises in your design. If it does, then you can apply the appropriate design pattern in your solution. In short, knowing the problem solved by the design pattern rather than the name of the design pattern itself is more important in my opinion.
