Here the intensity changes greatly by just changing the LSB. I'm trying to understand if there is the any "correct way" to have end values map to solid colors, like compressing the value range and have the end values saturate. And what is the mathematical explanation of that? In the example formula, input value of 1.0 doesn't produce output that averages to 7, and that's what bothers me.
