May 18, 2022 at 21:15 comment added NOT CSEducator It is actually simple to answer: we start counting from zero instead of one for the same reason that rulers and measuring tapes start from zero instead of one. The "counting" index is the offset from the array's beginning, so it makes sense that the beginning is offset from itself by zero, or in other words, it is where it is.
