  • AlwaysON would be ideal solution but keeping in mind OP has no real time DBA plus he is currently on SQL Server 2008 migrating to 2012 will put extra work of application testing before making it live.   • @DaveMarkie: thank you, that's given me something to think about. Unfortunately upgrading to any version of SQL 2014 isn't something we've budgeted for, and Enterprise is ridiculously expensive (although I understand the kind of sectors it's targeted at, and the big budgets they have). I've seen some Enterprise-only features drift down into the Standard edition over time, maybe SQL 2016 will have AlwaysOn for us mortals :) Commented Nov 9, 2014 at 19:48

    @Shanky: Heh, that's why I said it was a "technical" solution. It may not be the practical one. I too agree that Log Shipping is probably the best he's going to be able to do, sadly. Commented Nov 9, 2014 at 19:55
