- AlwaysON would be ideal solution but keeping in mind OP has no real time DBA plus he is currently on SQL Server 2008 migrating to 2012 will put extra work of application testing before making it live. This all could be time consuming and costly for him. But it all depends if he is willing toShanky– Shanky2014-11-09 19:38:14 +00:00Commented Nov 9, 2014 at 19:38
- @DaveMarkie: thank you, that's given me something to think about. Unfortunately upgrading to any version of SQL 2014 isn't something we've budgeted for, and Enterprise is ridiculously expensive (although I understand the kind of sectors it's targeted at, and the big budgets they have). I've seen some Enterprise-only features drift down into the Standard edition over time, maybe SQL 2016 will have AlwaysOn for us mortals :)KenD– KenD2014-11-09 19:48:21 +00:00Commented Nov 9, 2014 at 19:48
- 1@Shanky: Heh, that's why I said it was a "technical" solution. It may not be the practical one. I too agree that Log Shipping is probably the best he's going to be able to do, sadly.Dave Markle– Dave Markle2014-11-09 19:55:10 +00:00Commented Nov 9, 2014 at 19:55

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. sql-server), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
