I've tried many distros over the years on a large variety of hardware and Kubuntu has been the most reliability easy to setup and maintain, which is why I have used it on my desktop systems at work (Caltech / NASA) since 2016. Kubuntu offers the best overall KDE experience of any distro I've tried (which I personally think is a bit odd, since KDE Neon should theoretically be the best way to use KDE). It has all of the main strengths of being in the Ubuntu family without the insistence on using Snaps. Kubuntu 26.04 is amazingly good, even though it's still in beta. It should be quite easy for almost anyone to set it up and use it without much fuss. This is largely because of the improvements in the latest version of KDE Plasma, but also due to the overall stability of the foundations on which Kubuntu is built. The major advantage of running latest 25.10 release is the newer kernel (6.17 as for today), which is more relevant to users with newest hardware. In future I consider going along with rolling versions (aside from LTS) due to the kernel updates. I used to use KDE Neon (kernel 6.12) for the latest KDE environment, but it wasn't as stable as current Kubuntu 25.10 with kernel 6.17. I think the kernel version is important here when installing on quite fresh hardware, because I kept KDE Neon on 2 legacy (10 years old) PCs and Neon drives there well and is stable. To me it is a rather convenient entry point for beginners. It worked pretty solid throughout the whole period and it might might have been the longest duration I went with an OS without having any major issues. I still cannot give full 10 points as over the time there have been some minor issues that I was not able to resolve and became rather annoying and ultimately led me to try out other distributions. One was the updater which struggled to acknowledge that some applications moved to snaps and would still try to update those, leading to error messages and disruption in the updating process. Another issue was with connecting multiple screens through display link. While it seemingly worked fine when I originally set it up. The display configuration became buggy over time and sometimes did not allow rearranging displays and would not show any cursor on the secondary screen. As mentioned, this only occurred after continuously running the same installation over several years, with multiple version upgrades, so I guess it does not represent the actual situation with a fresh installation. overall, I consider it a rather solid distro and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't really know with which distribution to start.
