Timeline for Within my themes page.tpl.php file it has a reference to a lot of variables like $head and $local_styles. What file are they stored in?

Adding or altering content normally happens further up in the chain, when you are at the template stage, the only thing you should be controlling, is form, not content. There is not generic advice for adding new content, it depends to much on what you want to do. I suggest you post a new question in the form "On page [X] I want to add content [Y], how can I do that?" | |
