I've been working on a side project, building a physics engine(rudimentary, mostly for learning purposes) and I've used a little bit of OpenCL to make it faster but haven't gotten amazing results yet(in some cases I even made it worse) | |

But on the other hand you should not stop at one thing and if I were you I would have a look at higher level APIs and engines which abstract OpenGL and DirectX. | |
