Hello and welcome to the 153rd edition of the Screenshot of the Week!

To start with, congratulations to the winner of the previous contest! Pinckerman's screenshot from won with 13 upvotes!

Last week's winning screenshot one

To submit a screenshot, simply post it as an answer to this question, but please take note of the following:

  • One screenshot per post, and one post per person, please!
  • Limited picture modifications are allowed, such as cropping, simple filters, and blurring of identifying info such as names, but not adding other images or text.
  • To ensure a fair playing field, please post screenshots you've taken yourself rather than ones you found online.
  • Stack Exchange’s Code of Conduct still applies - so if it would be unacceptable to post normally, it’s unacceptable here.

Also, try to avoid pictures that include spoilers. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this contest, so the less spoilers the better.

How long will the contest run?

We will accept submissions for a week, until October 27, 2025, then have a second week-long period where only voting will be accepted. This is to give every submission, even those posted at the end of the first week, a chance to be voted on by everyone.

After the end of the second week, at the end of the day on November 3, 2025, we will count upvotes only to determine the winning screenshot, which will be featured for a week on the main site's photo widget.

Theme - Halloween!

It's the spooky season, and so per usual, this contest's theme is Halloween! Share your spookiest screenshots so that we all feel the need to keep the lights on tonight while we sleep.

As a reminder, we're always accepting suggestions for themed weeks, and have compiled that suggestion process into a question of its own. Additionally, there is the hall of fame you can check out that contains all the previous contest winners.

  • The current top 2 are both quite gruesome. Should we really have corpses pinned in the sidebar on every page? Commented Nov 1 at 23:03

@FabianRöling Well, it is (for) Halloween, and these are arguably about as real as some people dressing up, and this is a video gaming site for people of at least 16 years of age. On the other hand, I was convinced there would have been some precedents by now, but was apparently wrong. And I do get your point. Maybe good to bring up in a separate thread here on meta? And consult the CoC (which can be used to make your case) as part of that question? (The voting activity is also quite low for a SotW thread, so maybe there are more concerned users?) • I originally was considering using another image but it was a bit too over-saturated(?) for my taste. Commented Oct 21 at 23:48

Man, this reminds me of movies I had watched as a kid on the TV, about rats invasion. Commented Oct 22 at 7:31

Ok fine, I'll go play through this game again (+ APT: Requiem) Commented Oct 22 at 16:22
  • Honestly, not sure if this is fully a horror game or a horror screenshot, but... eh, the people seem to like it :P Commented Oct 30 at 1:34

It was definitely more horror than I had anticipated, going from lovely romantic(ized) scenes through these rat-infested tunnels into something almost straight out of a Gigerian nightmare. I am looking forward to Requiem, and have no idea what to expect, except again many opportunities to make great screenshots. Commented Oct 31 at 8:55

@Joachim Requiem was just as good (probably even better IMO). Definitely a lot of great moments for screenshots Commented Oct 31 at 18:45
  • @Wondercricket I'm adding that to my list of "do not play to avoid posting terabytes of screenshots" 👀 Commented Nov 3 at 9:56

Do you like man-eating spiders?

There's a lengthy description as you are given the choice to search a dead body which is actively being devoured by spiders. The title says: "A body crawling with spiders", and the description says: "Small, crawling spiders are everywhere. 'Small'... Perhaps they are small compared to other arachnids you've seen around here. Otherwise, you wouldn't exactly call them tiny. While they are feasting upon the corpse, they definitely won't mind giving you a bite or two, if you give them a chance to do so. Searching this body might be very painful... Continue?"

  • I like how this game gave a lengthy and thorough description about the situation when I tried to search the body. Commented Oct 21 at 14:57
  • @Clockword What did you do/what happened? Commented Oct 21 at 23:43
  • @Otakuwu To avoid spoilers, there's another alternative, so I went looking for it. Commented Oct 21 at 23:44

This isn't an image (well, it is but it's mostly text), but still enough to scare me. Good job. Commented Nov 4 at 16:23

This pile of carcasses in is like the Halloween version of The Raft of the Medusa:

Halloween is all about telling scary stories, is it not. Here's one from the ruins of a forgotten city in a forgotten world:

You find some mouldering notes: I'm too late. The screaming has finally stopped. I just wasn't fast enough. I'll still summon the swamp ... drown the enemy before they can escape ... will anyone find this?

From the LambdaMOO RPG. In a workshop that, as the ominous warning implies, has in fact been swallowed by the swamp - you literally get pulled down through the muck to reach this place.

The story goes several layers deeper then this note. You get to witness part of the battle involving the enemy here. And it gets quite a lot worse.

(By "in a forgotten world" I mean that the LambdaMOO RPG is almost 30 years old and the only people still playing it are me and two or three others - the entire game is mostly forgotten; it was originally intended to be an online-multiplayer game but is now basically played as if it were singleplayer. The "forgotten city" part is in-universe; referring to (what is implied to be) a city sunk beneath the swamp) Commented Oct 27 at 17:07
  • I'm very familiar with playing games which are no longer remembered by anyone else. In my case, many of these are Flash or Macromedia games which I cannot download and run locally, and as such, I'm afraid that when the site where it's hosted finally dies, it will be nothing more than a faint memory. Flash games can in theory be run locally (check out BlueMaxima's Flashpoint). The LambdaMOO RPG is an odd duck here though - about 90% of the code is open-source in a custom language whose interpreter is also open-source but the other 10% isn't and most of the fun comes from that 10%. I doubt the LambdaMOO server is going to die any time before 2038 since enough people still care to keep it minimally running, but when it does things will truly be lost forever. Fight Off The Living Dead

Another one of Khallos’ attempts to take over the world has failed at the hands of Harry Tipper. As usual, Khallos has fled the scene, leaving a henchman to deal with the consequences (lots of zombies in this case). See how long you can keep him alive for…

The player character, one of Khallos’s henchmen, backed into a corner as a wave of sewer zombies approach. The player is reloading their last two shotgun shells as the closest zombie is almost with in mêlée range.
