Good deal. No, what Python interface you use has nothing to do with it. I run in line mode mostly, in a terminal session. Same results. It's not about the Python interface.
This is M8:

>>> import time >>> start=time.time() >>> sd = sas.df2sd(df) >>> print((time.time()-start)/60) 1.6598737478256225 >>> 

while this is M2:

>>> import time >>> start=time.time() >>> sd = sas.df2sd(df) >>> print((time.time()-start)/60) 12.21902273495992 >>>
